For some time now, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa has been without the spa part.
The Mandara Spa inside the Grand Californian closed in July of 2019, and since then Disney announced their plans to replace it with the Tenaya Stone Spa. The opening of Tenaya was delayed but it’s now scheduled to open on September 16th. Today we were invited to attend an event to get a first look at this new spa space, and you can come along to check it out!
Atmosphere
Dawn Jackson, a Native American cultural advisor, has said that the spa’s name, Tenaya, can be “interpreted ‘to dream’ in the indigenous culture of the Yosemite Valley,” and the spa is “inspired by the spirit of nature and California heritage.”
A Walt Disney Imagineering art director named Katrina Mosher explained that the spa is designed to reflect “the natural order of 4,” as the space is aligned with 4 directions and 4 colors.
Natural features are all around the spa, with many rock, wood, and stone elements.
The floor of the spa got in on the theme as well. This looks like the perfect place to hunt for hidden Mickeys!
What did we tell you? 😉
There are also several products available for purchase at the spa. There’s a line from Volupsia…
…and a collection of bath bombs. They’ve got everything from Lavender to Evergreen Twist to Sunrise Sunset.
They also have robes and towels available, as well as headbands. Everything just looks so plush and comfy!
And the spa even has its own line of soaps. These are made into Loofah Bars, so they’ll help you exfoliate — your skin will be softer than a baby’s!
We could spend all day in here just checking out the beautiful merchandise. Is this the most relaxing shop in Disneyland Resort? Maybe!
And even the waiting area is serene. There are several lounge chairs in here where you can kick back and relax before your day at the spa begins.
It’s all highlighted by a stunning stained-glass window as the centerpiece. There’s some serious detail put into this craftsmanship.
So what does this beautiful spa have to offer? Well, let’s discuss some of the services!
Services
Services currently offered include body treatments, massages, and salon services, as well as massages and manicures/pedicures.
Reservations are open, but at this time only guests of Disneyland Resort hotels (Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel, and Pixar Pier Hotel) can book services. Services will open up for non-hotel guests at a later date.
The full-service salon will be opening as soon as possible, but not with the grand opening of the spa itself. We’ll keep you updated with the details!
We don’t know about you, but we’re definitely tempted to start planning our own spa day here. It looks like it’s going to be a great addition to the Grand Californian Hotel.
And that was our first look around the Tenaya Stone Spa! We’ll make sure to keep you updated on all the offerings and news here, as well as any news about Disneyland Resort!
