In just a few weeks, Disney World turns 50 years old! And there is a HUGE celebration getting ready at the parks, especially at Magic Kingdom!
Cinderella Castle already got a massive transformation, we’ve seen some golden touches added to Fantasyland, many of the 50th anniversary statues have started showing up, and even the popcorn boxes have been updated to a 50th anniversary design.
And we keep noticing new 50th anniversary touches at the parks every day! Today, one of those new touches involves Disney’s plants. There’s a brand new 50th anniversary topiary display in front of the Train Station at Magic Kingdom! This will be one of the first things you see when you walk into the park.
There are two topiaries: one of Mickey in a bright gold bowtie…
…and one of Minnie with a bright gold bow between her ears. In the middle of the two is a beautiful 50th birthday cake in the “EARidescent” colors that have become representative of the celebration.
The fence around the topiary was also repainted to be bright gold! Before today, the fence was Disney’s signature shade of Go Away Green, so it was obviously repainted overnight along with the installation of the topiaries!
So now, once you enter Magic Kingdom, there’s no doubt that Disney World is having a big birthday party!
We love seeing all these little individual touches that Disney keeps adding to celebrate the 50th anniversary — we can’t wait to see what turns up next. We’ll be sure to share all the 50th celebration details and photos with you, so stay tuned!

Love Disney. Love the 50 year celebration. But the cake looks cheap. The stand it’s sitting on does not blend in. The fence needs to be repainted green so the topiaries can shine more. Everything so far is a hit but please Disney reimagine this as the first thing you see walking into icon Magic Kingdom!!

My immediate impression was the topiary was delightful with perhaps the exception of the cake stand. I can see the idea is to have hints of gold everywhere and to this end a few yellow flowers amongst the rest would make it even more attractive.
