Mickey Bars, Dole Whips, huge sundaes — there are SO many ice cream options to cool off with when you’re in Disney World!
But, boozy ice cream is a whole other ballpark! We’ve seen Mac-tinis, Baileys Brownie Sundaes, beer gelato, and other treats previously around Disney World. And, now there’s a VERY special margarita you’ll want to take a trip to EPCOT for ASAP!
Not too long ago, we shared details about a NEW Ice Cream Margarita that would soon be arriving at one of our favorite spots in EPCOT, La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico pavilion.
Well now, the ice cream margarita has finally arrived! The drink is called “Abuelita’s Mudslide” and it tasted generally like tequila mixed with melted chocolate-flavored ice cream. According to La Cava del Tequila’s Instagram account, the drink is made with Ilegal Mezcal. The drink is served in a plastic ice cream cone and features one of the bar’s famous smoke bubbles on top! Just LOOK at this presentation — it’s definitely gets high marks there.
Did you know there is a drink called a Mexican Mudslide? According to some recipes we spotted online, the drink appears to generally feature ice cream, chocolate syrup, cinnamon, Amaretto, and Kahlua. There is also a liquor called Mexican Mudslide that is described as a chocolate coffee liqueur blended with rum and real cream.
So here’s how getting this new drink at La Cava del Tequila works (or at least what we experienced) — the bartender lets you pick out a souvenir plastic ice cream cone in the color of your choice. Then the drink is made in front of you. Have your camera ready because you’ll probably want to video that — it’s so neat!

If you plan on taking a photo of this drink to post on Instagram (and seriously, why wouldn’t you?), you’ll probably want to snap that picture before you pick it up though. The bubble is very sensitive and can easily pop (not like we’re speaking from experience or anything). When it pops, it does leave behind a cool, smoke-like effect, though which is neat in and of itself. And once it has popped, you can see the margarita itself, which tasted like it was made with a melted chocolate-flavored ice cream.
We watched the bartender put what seemed like a lot of tequila in it, which made us a bit concerned that the alcohol flavor would be overpowering. But, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the ice cream flavor actually dilutes the alcohol taste and it’s super smooth going down. So not only is this a fun drink idea, but it’s also quite tasty!
We did ask about whether there is a version of this for those with a lactose intolerance and was told that there isn’t one available right now. So if you’re lactose intolerant, keep that in mind. Also, when we visited, our drink featured a mix that had that chocolate ice cream taste to it. If you don’t like chocolate, that could be a deal-breaker for you, too.
We think this could be a great drink for birthday celebrations, bachelorette parties, honeymooning couples, and really any other celebration. Or you could get it just because it’s pretty cool. You can try the Ice Cream Tequila for yourself for $21.30 (plus tax and gratuity).
But, you’ll have to know just when to visit. The ice cream tequila drink is only available on Wednesdays! So, you’ll have to plan your visits carefully if you want to grab this creation. Also, when we visited, the item wasn’t listed on the menu, so you have to know to ask for this unique drink.

I asked for the Abuelita’s mudslide on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 at La Cava. They said they no longer make this drink. Just a heads up.
