Earlier this year, Disney announced that FastPass+ would be going away and new, paid FastPass-like systems would be taking its place.
The new, paid Genie+ service, along with Individual Attraction Selection, will become guests’ new ways to skip the lines at their favorite rides. We’ve already shared a bunch of information about these systems, but now we’ve got an update about how a particular aspect of Genie+ will operate.
What is Disney Genie?
First, let’s go through a quick breakdown of just what Genie+ is. Genie+ will let guests bypass the standby lines at select attractions in Disney World. The base price for Genie+ is $20 per day, per ticket at Disneyland Resort and $15 per day, per ticket at Disney World.
With Disney Genie+, you’ll be able to select return times for the attractions you want to visit, 1 ride at a time. Essentially, you will make your selection, wait for your return time for that ride to arrive, visit the attraction during the designated time — during which you’ll be able to use that ride’s Lightning Lane (a.k.a. the old FastPass+ lane) and skip the standby line. Again, you’ll only be able to make a Genie+ ride selection for 1 ride at a time.
So far, Disney has shared that over 40 attractions in Disney World will be included as part of Genie+. We previously heard directly from Disney via a media call that Genie+ would include attractions like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Haunted Mansion.
Select popular attractions will NOT be available through Genie+, however. Instead, to skip the standby lanes at those popular rides, you’ll have to pay to utilize each ride’s Lightning Lane individually through Individual Attraction Selection. Guests will only be able to make a maximum of 2 Individual Attraction Selections each day.
Attractions that Disney has indicated will be available through Individual Attraction Selection include Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure Park, Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Web Slingers in Disney California Adventure park, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT.

Re-Riding Rides
Alright, so that’s the basics of Genie+. Now, let’s get to the update. According to a Disney Cast Member we spoke to during a media preview event Disney held earlier today, guests will NOT be able to re-ride attractions through Genie+.Â
This was specifically noted in relation to Genie+ — again, this is the service you’ll pay $15 for per day at Disney World to make return time selections at over 40 rides in Disney World, 1 at a time throughout the day.
Essentially, what this means is that you won’t be able to make more than 1 Genie+ Lightning Lane selection for a ride on any 1 day. If you want to ride Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Haunted Mansion, and then Buzz again, you’ll only be able to make a Genie+ selection for 1 of those Buzz rides.
You won’t be able to get a Lightning Lane Genie+ selection for Buzz twice during the same day. To ride it a second time, you’ll have to utilize the standby lane (of course, you can go through the standby lane as many times as you want, without any kind of limit).
Now, this is what the Cast Members indicated to us today during the media preview event we attended. But, it seems like this is a fluid situation. It is possible that things could change prior to the launch of Genie+.Â
Right now, Disney Genie is set to launch this fall and we expect Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selection will launch with it. We’ll be on the lookout for more updates and we’ll let you know what we find.

I’m going next week for the 50th and would love to see this feature launch before then as I expect lines to be insane . Is there any chance that genie+ will launch in the next week?
DFB Sarah says
Andrew, it’s Disney; anything is possible. 🤣 Seriously, though, we haven’t heard a date, but Disney could drop an announcement any time. We will report on it as soon as we know!
Daas says
This is a comment for all the DFB articles….I think it would be a good idea to put the date the article is written/posted just under the person who wrote the article at the top of the page. I do see the date in the URL, but otherwise the readers doesn’t know how current the information is. The you tube videos automatically show the viewer the date posted and I find this very helpful…i have watched a couple of resteraunt reviews, but then i then i realized it was from 2 years ago before the pandemic. Disney changes things ALL the time and I have read articles (not just DFB) and sometimes i get conflicting information and it’s hard to know what information is the latest and greatest. Just a suggestion. With all that said, I think DFB does a fantastic job.
DFB Sarah says
Thank you, Daas. I’ve shared this with the team.
Blanca says
With Fast Pass we were able to go on the same ride more than once during the day. I am paying $15 a day for Genie Plus and I can only go on a particular ride one time during the entire day. If this is correct, than this is another example of how these changes have hurt the Disney experience. Is this true?
Maria says
My husband and I love Disney! I don’t know about the new way genie. We don’t want to spend our trip burried in our cell phones booking the next ride.
Dan says
That’s really interesting. It does actually seem like Disney is trying to make it so more people get to get on a ride they want at least once. I know there’s some rides that we never even attempt just because waiting for them would take a significant chunk of our limited time in WDW.
Lola says
I would also like to reiterate what Daas has said. The lack of a date on each post really does make for confusing times, especially when you click on some of the linked articles underneath and you have no idea when they’re referring to. This hasn’t been that helpful when you’re trying to keep up to date with the latest rules etc during the pandemic.
Love the rest of DFB though.

What a S%*&storm Disney has become.
We were going to go to Disney this year, but I am taking my family of 5 to Universal in Nov specifically because they dont require masks. Stuff like this just reinforces that decision.
Kimberley Fischer says
This is nuts. Disney is drowning itself in greed. First they raise the entry ticket prices through the roof, including the annual memberships, raise the parking through the roof, the hotel room fees, and now they essentially want you to pay separately for the rides or stand in a line for hours. Walt is turning over in his grave, utterly appalled. His dream is now a nightmare.
Aryn says
Wow, they have really gone out of their way to make this a unattractive deal
Jake says
This is a big bummer in my opinion about not being able to re-ride. I love that about Fast Pass +, if you wanted to do Splash Mountain 5 times in a day, and you could work the Fast Pass + magic to make it happen, you could do it. The fact that it is only a single time per day is a big bummer – already on top of the bummer that Fast Pass was free and now a paid item.
With Disney going the paid route to skip the lines, I would rather they just make it like Universal Express pass at this point…much more streamlined and straight forward with the two tiers…either express pass or unlimited express pass.
NJ says
In reference to Daas (above) I totally agree, and have found the same frustration with not knowing if the information is current or not. Please date your articles.
Christine says
This is even a better reason for this system to fail like it did in Disneyland Paris. I don’t mean to be a negative Nancy, but Gennie + is a far more complex system then the Fastpass + system.
CT says
This news doesn’t surprise me. However, with the old fast passes you could ride more than once if it was later in the day and there were fast passes left for that ride. I can understand why they would limit the Genie+ to 1 time, but it gives less value if you are someone who doesn’t like big rollercoasters, and want to do other non-roller coaster rides more than once.
Ronjon says
Wow Disney and their new Genie+ system just keeps getting worse. First Disney takes away the free FastPass that you could as often as you want on ay ride that had FastPass. Now Disney has their “pay to play” Genie+ with too many restrictions and limitations, including the latest of a “one time only” use a day on each ride )not to mention the additional cost of the so-called premium rides).
So is this really about crowd control, or is Disney really trying to discourage people from coming to the parks? New CEO Bob Chapek is just making things so much harder and expensive for the average visitor. Other than greed, why is he doing this to the loyal dedicated guest/visitors? Things were fine before he took over, why does he insist on making things worse?
Renee says
I really think Disney needs to reassess their goal for this service and the cost to their guests. If I’m paying $15-$20 per day/ per guest for an upgraded version of Disney Genie so I can use the Lightening Lane, it should allow guests to ride any ride more than once. The MaxPass allowed guests to ride all attractions multiple times.. I think they are losing sight here and starting to nickel and dime their guests with less and less benefits. It’s disappointing.
Christina says
I second what @Daas says!
Bill says
So unless I’m mistaken I get to pay $15 a day not to use the Lightning Lane for 39 rides. Wow! What a bargain. I can’t wait to go. Disney — ruining family vacations before they even start. Has Chapek resigned yet?
DFB Sarah says
Bill, you can use Genie+ as many times as you want throughout the day. You can only select one Lightning Lane pass at a time, and this post shares that you may not be able to experience an attraction more than once using Genie+ on it. You’d need to get in the Standby line in order to experience it a second, third, etc. time. Of course, once you use a Genie+ Lightning Lane pass, you can immediately book another for a different ride.
DFB Sarah says
Blanca, Disney has not confirmed this information. We’ll clarify when the service launches.
chimom says
We do not know yet if $15 for Genie+ will give us access to ride all rides or we need to select our top picks (limit 8 when to ride suggestions (no LL access) with the free version).
DFB Sarah says
Chimom, Genie+ should include unlimited one-at-a-time selections, but since you can’t re-ride attractions with Genie+, that would limit uses to the number of attractions in a Park.
Anthony says
Why are people up in arms over only being able to use Genie+ for one and done. I have been going to WDW just about every year since 84. Prior to any Fast Pass system. And did anyone try to get a paper Fast Pass twice for their favorite attraction in the same day. And not have any more passes available. And be honest. How many times did you use Fast Pass+ to reserve a pass twice for the same attraction during the same day. I’m sorry but I see this as Faux outrage about not being able to make as many selections, for the attraction as you want, in the same day. These would be the same people who would complain that they were not able to book one. Because they are not available. If you think that this is hyperbole. Just look at the number of people who were upset that they could not get a reservation for ROTR at 7am. Now, if you want to vent because of the cost to have this privilege. Then I can understand that.
I di know that there will be times that I will not use Genie+. Example, I will not pay to use it at Epcot, i will do the Standby Lines. The attractions they have listed currently, under the guise of Pay-As-You-Go, Frozen and Ratatouille. I have no interest in. This park I will save the $15 per ticket, and the individual selection as well. At AK, I will only do the Pay-As-You-Go. And not once again pay to use Genie+. Mainly because this is my favorite park and I enjoy the time I spend there. Genie+ I will use at MK & DHS. I will not pay the extra to ride SM, I will do Standby. And the Seven Dwarfs, I will not pay for that attraction. I can see using the Pay-As-You-Go for ROTR only. Not a fan of MMRR. Now this will be fluid as new attractions come on board, at Epcot and MK. As of now, this is how I plan to use both. That’s My2cnts.
Blanca says
On 10/7/21 I posted a question. Will Disney Genie Plus allow us to go on a Particular ride more than once in a single day? Now that Disney Genie Plus is in effect, can I go on a Particular ride more than ONCE in a single day using Disney Genie Plus?
DFB Sarah says
Blanca, you can not. You’re limited to one Genie+ selection per attraction.
Blanca says
Sarah, thanks for your reply to me on 10/28 that with Genie Plus, I can only go on a particular ride ONCE during the day . My husband and I DO NOT GO ON ROLLER COASTERS. The number of rides we can go on has always been limited however we were able to go on the rides that we enjoy MORE THAN ONCE with FAST PASS. How does Disney justify giving us less and charging us MORE. I think I speak for many other Disney guests also. What can be done? Thanks
