We’re eating our way around Disney World this week as a whopping 150 new food and drink items arrive just in time for the official start of the 50th Anniversary Celebration!
One of the restaurants that got a LOT of love and attention from Disney World when it comes to special 50th Anniversary treats is The Plaza Restaurant in Magic Kingdom. After all, what we know today as The Plaza Restaurant was an opening day dining spot at Disney World back in 1971, so it totally should get its own special recognition!
The Plaza Restaurant is a quaint dining spot on the corner of Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom that features both indoor and outdoor seating. The Plaza Restaurant has four new additions to its menu in celebration of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, and three of those items are desserts! The items have little nods to Walt Disney himself. We tried the entree and one epic dessert, and we need to talk about them NOW.
For the main course, we’re channeling our inner Disneyland fan and snacking on the Monte Cristo Sandwich with Deep-fried Funnel Cake Batter, Bacon, Roasted Turkey, and Provolone sprinkled with EARidescent and Powdered Sugar served with a side of Strawberry Jam.

The Monte Cristo Sandwich is a staple over in Disneyland, so we love the little nod to Disney history by including this on the menu! As you’d expect from any Monte Cristo, this was a cheesy, greasy, and delicious sandwich. It had a fun presentation and costs $18! This was one of our favorite 50th Anniversary additions to Magic Kingdom.
For dessert is the Cheers to 50 Years! This dish comes with both Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, Brownies, Cupcakes, Cookie Crumbles, Pretzel Rods, and Hot Fudge topped with Whipped Cream, EARidescent Sugar, and a Mickey Pretzel drizzled with Caramel and Chocolate Icing. Yeah — it’s big.
According to Disney, this dessert should easily feed four hungry guests! This was an over-the-top treat if there’s ever been one at Disney World! All the toppings were great and the brownie and chocolate-covered pretzel rods were delicious. Keep in mind: you can’t change the ice cream flavors, only chocolate and vanilla.

I saw your photo/video of the Monte Cristo Sandwich and I immediately said to my son, “I didn’t know they had the Monte Cristo Sandwich in the Magic Kingdom. That’s a Disneyland sandwich.” And then I read your words which basically parroted mine! My family is definitely going to add a stop at the Plaza Restaurant to our next WDW vacation due to that sandwich. Thank you for letting us know that it exists, at least temporarily, at the Magic Kingdom.

Yes. We are booked for a ten-night split resort stay – 5 nights at Coronado Springs and 5 nights at Riviera Resort – in May of 2022!
