Our reporters here at DFB are hard-working people! They’re in the parks every day of the week to bring the latest news, braving the heat, the crowds, and the general chaos of Disney World.
This past week, our Disney warriors hit the parks for the 50th Anniversary, phones charged, cameras ready, and reusable utensils on standby — ready to try what seemed like a million snacks and share photos of all the news. And let us just tell you, it was NOT a normal Friday. Some pretty funny things happened to our DFB reporters last week!
Blue…EVERYWHERE
So, you may have heard that Disney World released more than 150 new treats and snacks for the 50th Anniversary. And here at DFB, we tried a LOT of them! But what you may not know is that about 70% of those treats were colored with blue dye and by the end of the day, we were looking like we were ready to be cast in the next Smurfs movie.
Hands. Tongues. Faces. Lips. Even our SHOES got blue dye on them — how does that happen? We honestly have no idea because it was all a sugary, glittery, EARidescent blur.
Birds Just Wanted to Celebrate
We spent most of October 1st stuffing our faces with a variety of new snacks and food offerings, but apparently, some other creatures wanted to join in on the fun. If you’ve ever dined outdoors at one of Disney World’s quick service restaurants, then you know that some rather interesting wildlife encounters happen from time to time.
Sometimes the animals (Who are used to getting fed people food — which is a no-no by the way.) get a little more confident than they should. This became a rather startling issue when a large bird almost flew directly into the side of one reporter’s head in an attempt to steal the meatloaf right out from under his nose. An optimistic plan? Sure. But definitely not the most stealthy one we’ve ever seen.
Disney KiteTails
Ahh, Disney KiteTails, the newest (and perhaps most entertaining) addition to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You never quite know what you’re going to get with this show, and we experienced that firsthand when watching on Saturday.
We happened to catch the Jungle Book version of the show in the afternoon, and mid-performance the large Baloo kite took a nosedive for the trees. Honestly, he looked pretty much how we felt after the 50th Anniversary. Good on you for getting that much-needed rest during a rowdy weekend, but seriously dude, you’re at work. How would HR feel about you napping on the job? 😉

So as you can see, we experience some pretty strange things while reporting for DFB. The 50th Anniversary was a blast, but some quite funny and interesting things did happen!
