Disney Genie+ which is Disney’s FastPass replacement, is here. If you miss skipping the lines at all your favorite attractions, you can now do so with the help of Disney Genie+. But wait, there’s more! While guests will be able to purchase Genie+ and ride most rides with a shorter line, not all attractions are available through Genie+. That’s where the new Individual Attraction Selection (IAS) system comes into play.
The Individual Attraction Selection system uses surge pricing and allows guests to pay-per-ride. Keep in mind that you don’t have to pay to ride the IAS attractions; there will still be a virtual or standby queue. Now that you’ve got the idea, you might be wondering how to purchase an Individual Attraction Selection. Let’s break it down. 🕺
What Is An Individual Attraction Selection?
With the new Genie+ feature, guests can make reservations to skip the lines at more than 50 rides throughout Disney World. This service starts at a cost of $15 per ticket, per day (plus tax). But each Disney World park has a ride (the most popular ones) that don’t qualify for Genie+.
You can “skip the lines” at these rides by purchasing an Individual Attraction Selection (or Pay-Per-Ride) reservation. You do not have to have Genie+ to buy these reservations, and if you have Genie+, you will still have to pay the extra fee. Guests can buy up to two of these reservations per day. The prices for each attraction (we like to call them the Fancy Rides) currently range from $7 to $22.
If you decide to take advantage of the Individual Attraction Selection system, you can reserve up to 2 rides per day, and they don’t have to be in the same Disney park if you have Park Hopper. After making a reservation, you will be given a return time with a window of 1 hour to ride the attraction. So how do you buy it?
How to Buy Individual Attractions/Make Reservations
To buy the Individual Attraction Selection reservations, you’ll head to the My Disney Experience app and go to the Genie section. (Make sure you’ve updated your My Disney Experience app.)
There’s a main page called “My Day,” where you might find the Pay-Per-Ride attractions if you’ve already filled in your preferences for the Genie. When you click on “My Day,” there’s a recommended activity to fill in your preferences. You can do this before your visit.
This is not required for buying an Individual Attraction Selection, but it might make it easier to find the attractions on your “My Day” page.
Or you can head to the Tip Board section, where there’s a list of rides in the park you’re visiting first. You can find the attraction you want there and see how much it costs.
If the ride you’re looking for is not in the first park you’re visiting (AKA you’re park hopping later in the day and want to buy reservations for a ride in that park), click “Change Park” at the top of the Tip Board.
Once you’ve found the ride you want to purchase reservations for, you’ll tap the “Purchase” button.
Next, you’ll select which people in your party you want to buy reservations for.
The next step is to choose the time that you want to ride the attraction — you can search by hour during the day, and then it will show you specific times within that hour. Remember that your reservation gets you a one-hour window to return to the ride. So if you reserve the ride for 10AM, you can return anytime between 10AM and 11AM.
Hit continue, and then read over the information to confirm your purchase.
On the next page, you’ll go over your payment information and choose how you want to pay. You can use the card you have on file with the My Disney Experience app or a Disney gift card. A Cast Member previously told us that Apple Pay will be an option, but we didn’t see it listed as an option when we bought our reservations. You’ll review the payment summary and hit “Purchase.” Then you should see an order confirmation page, which means your order is complete!
Park Hopping?! Here’s An Individual Attraction Selection Issue You May Encounter!
If you’re trying to book an Individual Attraction Selection ride in two different parks (because you have Park Hopper), it can be a little tricky to find the ride that’s not in the first park you’re visiting. For example, we had Disney’s Hollywood Studios as the first park of our day, so we bought a reservation for Rise of the Resistance.
But we knew we would park hop over to EPCOT later in the day, so we wanted to book Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure as the second one. To find Remy’s, we had to go back to the Genie Tip Board, change the park at the top, and scroll down to find Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Even though we selected both of these attractions when we chose our selections for the day, neither popped up automatically.
There you have it! If you’re wanting to ride the *fancy rides* in Disney World with a shorter wait time, you officially can! Don’t forget that you can also (or instead) purchase Genie+ for a starting price of $15 per person, per day to reserve rides and “skip the lines” for most other Disney World attractions. Or, you can simply jump in the stand-by lines! Also, as a reminder, the free virtual queue is still available for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure! We’ll continue to share more Disney Genie tips, so stay tuned for more!

Elizabeth says
Curious to know if Disney Visa Card members can use their reward redemption cards to purchase “fancy ride” reservations
DFB Sarah says
Elizabeth, I’m not familiar with the reward redemption cards. If you’re able to load them into My Disney Experience (like a credit/debit card or a Disney gift card), you should be able to apply them.
Lisa says
Can u purchase individual genie+ on different credit cards but still book for ur entire party
Amber says
What time can you start making Genie+ selections?
Heather says
You are an amazing resource! What do you think we should book first when the clock strikes 7am – the Individual Attraction rides or the Genie + ride? In other words, which is likely to “sell out” faster? We will be going to Hollywood Studios one day and Animal Kingdom the next. Thank you!
Thatielle says
I’d like to know if can I purchase two fancy rides at 7 a.m. ? Or can I purchase the second one just after ride the fist one ?
P.S. I’m going stay in a Disney Resort.
Thanks
Michael says
Greetings
Is it possible to have reservations for 1 lightening lane ride and also 1 or 2 IAS rides all at the same time
Megan says
It is interesting that they have times available listed AFTER you purchase. In this example, there were plenty of time options but I am not sure that will always be the case. What if you pay and the allotted time slots do not fit with your schedule? Due to hopping, dining reservations, etc. can you go back? I feel like you should know your options before you buy or is it all just a gamble? Come on Disney, be decent!
DFB Sarah says
Megan, our reporters tell me that you can select your return time for Individual Attraction Selections, though with Genie+ you get next available rather than a choice of times. If for some reason you do miss your Individual Lightning Lane Attraction Selection, you will be refunded for the purchase.
DFB Sarah says
Michael, it is possible to have overlap. Our reporters experienced that yesterday. I’m not sure whether that is a glitch or whether it’s something that is meant to be allowed, but we did have it happen.
DFB Sarah says
Thatielle, you can purchase both Individual Attraction Selection LLs at 7AM, so you’d be carrying both reservations in My Disney Experience (plus a Genie+ if you’re using it).
DFB Sarah says
Heather, I would recommend Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash at DHS if you’re planning to buy Individual Attraction Selections. Those two have sold out the past two days (though not until a little later in the morning — still, better to be safe than sorry if you’re planning to get up at 7AM anyway!). At AK, we didn’t have trouble booking anything specifically, but I would say go for whatever ride is at the top of your list. For many that will be Flight of Passage, Everest, or Kilimanjaro Safaris. Enjoy your trip!
DFB Sarah says
Amber, you can start making Genie+ selections at 7AM.
DFB Sarah says
Lisa, if you have more than one form of payment in My Disney Experience, you may be able to buy it individually for each person with a different payment. I’m not familiar enough with how that might work, though, so I can’t say for certain. Perhaps Disney could do this for you over the phone, too, if you’re trying to do it pre-arrival.
Dave says
Ok it’s 7:00 am. I have Genie Plus. I’m going to Magic Kingdom. Do I book the lighting lane ride first or do I book the pay for Fancy ride first?
How about 7:00 and I’m going to Hollywood studios? Book rise of resistance (pay for it) first? Or find a lightning lane for a different ride first?
DFB Sarah says
Dave, I think the Individual Attraction Selections/Fancy Rides are the most time-sensitive. They can sell out quickly.
Laura says
We have park hopper and want to start our day at epcot and end at DHS. How do I book rise of the resistance? We’re staying off site. Will it only let me book it once epcot opens since that’s my reservation? At which point rise will be sold out. Any suggestions would be appreciated
DFB Sarah says
Laura, you will be able to purchase an Individual Attraction Selection Lightning Lane starting at Hollywood Studios Park opening time. You don’t need to be in Hollywood Studios to purchase Lightning Lane access.
Joanne Labasz says
how do I get the credit card I will be using on file on My disney experience app so when I go to pay for the pay per ride purchases my payment information is already on my app?
Lois Pierce says
I’ve got a question. I’m a large person and I’ve heard that some large people will not fit on Flight of Passage. I know they have a test seat out the attraction so you can try before standing in line, but if I buy an IAS for Flight of Passage at 7AM and then find I won’t fit on the ride, will they refund my money?
DFB Sarah says
Lois, you would need to go to Guest Relations, but I feel pretty confident that they refund it if you explain the circumstances. Sorry I can’t say for 100% certain, but you may contact Disney to see if they can confirm.
DFB Sarah says
Joanne, I think Disney can help you with that if you give them a call.
Jackie Pirie says
We will be at Disney Feb 27-March 5. Should we purchase IAS for Rise of Resistance prior to arrival in the resort, or do you think we will be safe and wait until the day of our visit to HS?
Kathy says
We’ll be a party of 6, including a 2 year old. Do we need to purchase a Genie+ for her for the rides she’s able to go on?
DFB Sarah says
Kathy, you do not need to purchase Genie+ for guests under three.
DFB Sarah says
Jackie, you can only buy an Individual Attraction Selection on the day of your Park visit. If you’re staying in a Disney Resort, you can start booking at 7AM. If you’re off-site, you have to wait until Park opening.
Kelly says
When you purchase pay per rides can you pay for both rides at the same time or does it require two transactions. Like Snow White and space mountain at the same time. Thanks
DFB Gigi says
Hi Kelly! Thanks for your question! When you are making individual Lightning Lane purchases each transaction will be separate.
Sara says
Sorry for the possibility dumb question but when they say “resort guests” specifically can book fancy rides at 7am does that also include the good neighbor resorts? I’m staying at B resort which gets early park access but I wasn’t sure if we also get access to those sweet sweet fancy ride times. Thanks much!
DFB Gigi says
Hi Sara,
Thanks so much for reaching out! According to Disney’s website, guests who have purchased the Disney Genie+ service can make their first selection at 7:00 AM on the day of their visit regardless of where they are staying. However, for individual Lightning Lane purchases starting at 7am guests must be staying at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels, Shades of Green or a Disney Resort.
Becca says
When you book a fancy ride for multiple people in your group is only the person who booked it charged or does it split the cost between people in your group?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Becca,
When you book the Fancy Rides, the MyDisneyExperience app will charge the person who booked the ride(s) so if you’re planning on splitting the cost we recommend speaking with your party beforehand to work out how you will split the cost amongst yourselves.
Patricia S says
I read through the comments and don’t think this has been asked yet hoping you can help. We will have three adults and a child who is 40 inches. All of the adults want to ride flight of passage but the little isn’t tall enough. How do we work this with purchasing the individual attraction? Can and how do we use ride swap with the individual selection purchase?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Patricia! Thanks so much for reaching out! In this case, you would only purchase the Individual Lightning Lane for everyone that will be riding. When you get to the Cast Members at the entrance to the ride, let them know that you will be using Rider Swap. The first part of your split group will go through and ride, then when it is your turn to swap, the second part of the group will go back to those Cast Members, scan your MagicBand or Mobile and enter the Lightning Lane.
PATRICIA SANTIAGO says
I think that’s the part that I’m confused about though. There are only three of us (adults) so two will go on and one will stay with the little. But when the ride swap time comes the one remaining adult who hasn’t ridden would have to go by herself or will they let another person in the party go on it twice? Thanks so much for your help!
DFB Gigi says
Hi Patricia,
If you have a waiting rider, when the other two riders return, one of them may go a second time with the waiting rider so nobody has to ride alone. 🙂
Tony Marti says
Do all early park admission guests have access to Genie+ ILL access at 7am, specifically the list of non-resort hotels (eg Disney Springs area eligible hotels)? Also, does early park admission apply to day of check out?
Jessica Azzinaro says
We have already purchased the genie+. We are going March 5th to Epcot, staying at the Swan. Can I make my first individual lightening lane purchase for Remy at 7am, immediately after if still available purchase individual lightening lane for frozen and then immediately after pick my first genie+ pick for spaceship earth? SO is it possible to have three “fast passes” at once but for all different times throughout the day? TIA!
DFB Gigi says
Yes you can, Jessica! You can actually stack even more Genie+ lightning lanes after that. Let’s say you get a Spaceship Earth Genie+ LL for 11am. As soon as you scan in to that ride, you can immediately make your next selection. After that, you can make selections every 120 minutes.
Anne says
Hi
Can u book an individual lightning lane – not a disney guest – even though you are not in the park yet
Thanks
DFB Gigi says
Hi Anne! Yes, you can book an Individual Access Selection even if you are not staying at a Disney Resort, but you have to wait until the park opens. You do not have to be in the park to book it, however.
Anne says
Thanx so much for clearing this up for me👍
Chrissy Dee says
Can I purchase both individual pay rides at the same time. As in: can I wake up and purchase ratatouille and frozen both at 7am in the morning (for different or same return windows – that part doesn’t matter for the question)… there is a question above that’s similar but she uses “individual lightening lane” terminology and I don’t know if that’s referring to lightning lane with genie plus or actual pay per ride items.
Jessica Azzinaro says
Hi, I have another question lol. My brother and I are both staying at the swan but in different rooms. Will I be able to pick the lightening lane and genie+ for him at 7am still? Thanks so much!
DFB Gigi says
Hi Jessica! Yes, just make sure your brother is added to your account so you can make the selections.
Sondra says
This is very helpful! Thank you!
Kathy says
If I pay for IAS for Rise of the Resistance at 7am and I have Genie+ too, can I book a LL for Tower of Terror at 7am too? Or does this fall under 120 rule??
DFB Gigi says
Hi Kathy! Individual Lightning Lane purchases and Genie+ purchases are separate so you can book both.
Kathy says
If I purchase an IAS (fancy ride) at 7am and book Rose of the Resistance for 11am, and I purchase Genie+ also at 7am, can a book a LL (fast pass) for Tower of Terror for 10am also?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Kathy! Yes, you will be able to do that. IAS attractions and Lightning Lanes operate independently from each other.
