In 2022, guests will get the first chance to step aboard the brand new Disney Wish cruise ship!
We’ve already checked out the new Disney Wish display in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, shared all kinds of awesome details Marvel and Star Wars fans will want to know about this ship, and taken a look at some of the new tween and teen hangout spots that will be on the ship. Now, we’re taking a special look at a NEW restaurant on the Disney Wish that’ll be full of amazing Disney details.
Calling all Disney animated movie fans: there’s a new restaurant coming to the Disney Wish that is just for you — 1923. 1923 is named for the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, and is a very elegant spot that celebrates many of the Company’s animated films.
1923 will actually feature 2 dining rooms (a first for Disney Cruise Line), which is meant to provide a more intimate feel. The dining rooms are named after the founders of the Walt Disney Company — Roy and Walt.
Overall, the restaurant will have more than 1,000 drawings, props, and other items that provide guests with an “inside look at the evolution of Disney animation.” Basically, it’s an animated movie lover’s DREAM.
There will be over 800 pieces of artwork, 24 multiplane cel set-ups, 50 character maquettes, and custom made props based on original items that inspired the animation of those classic movies, including some reproductions of the storybooks that are featured in those iconic opening scenes from some of the original films.
During a recent Disney Cruise Line media event, we actually got the chance to get some exclusive information about what films will be represented in 1923. 1923 will actually showcase items inspired by the following 16 specific films that embody enchantment:
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- The Sword in the Stone
- Beauty and the Beast
- The Princess and the Frog
- Bambi
- Fantasia
- Tangled
- Moana
- Cinderella
- Frozen
- Peter Pan
- Sleeping Beauty
- Pinocchio
- Frozen 2
- Alice in Wonderland
- The Little Mermaid
Disney has shared that these films were chosen as they “carry the themes of magic and wish fulfillment,” which are at the heart of the “enchantment” theme being incorporated throughout the Disney Wish.
As we noted above, these films will be represented through those hundreds of reproductions of props, artwork, and more. During the recent media event, we got to see some concept art showing pieces that will be displayed through the space, including some unique paintings…
…artwork showing Moana’s canoe…
…a reproduction of the Bambi design used for reference in the film, stones from Frozen 2…
…and even Monstro!
We got the feeling that the space will feel much like Tiffins in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where it will be museum-esque, with all of the props and more that will be displayed throughout the space.
1923 will also be incredibly elegant. You can tell that clearly through the concept art for the space.
You can also see that through the table settings that will be used in the restaurant. We got a peek at these during the media event, and you can see strong silver and gold themes throughout.
But, of course, there’s whimsy thrown in as well — like Hidden Mickeys!
The costumes of the Cast Members working at the restaurant are more on the simple and formal side, allowing the setting around them to truly shine.
When it comes to the food itself, the menu will be inspired by the California heritage of the Walt Disney Company. There will be “sophisticated dishes, designed with families in mind,” inspired by California’s unique blend of Asian, European, and South American flavors. There will be fresh produce — including things like wild honey and pistachios — incorporated into some of the dishes. And there will be a large selection of Napa Valley wines.
During our media preview, we got to see a sampling portion of some of the dishes that will be featured here, including a Porcini Spiced Ahi Tuna appetizer. We’ll be sharing a full review of that soon, so stay tuned!
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more news about the Disney Wish, so stay tuned for all the latest updates!
