The Disney Wish will join Disney Cruise Line’s fleet of ships and start sailing in 2022.
Aboard the Wish there will be 3 NEW family-friendly restaurants included in the ship’s traditional rotational dining — 1923, Worlds of Marvel, and Arendelle: A Frozen Adventure. And while the decor and entertainment at these restaurants look amazing, right now it’s time to focus on one of the most important things at these spots…the FOOD!
Recently, thanks to a special media event we were lucky enough to be invited to, we got the chance to sample various different items from these 3 NEW restaurants. Which of these items should you grab when you go on the Wish? We’re sharing ALL of our thoughts right here!
The Menu
During the media event, we were handed a tasting menu.
As the menu notes, we were able to sample 6 items in total, 2 appetizers from 1923, 2 entrees from Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure, and 2 desserts from Worlds of Marvel.
Of course, this is just a small peek at the items that will be available at each of these spots, but it was still really neat to get a sampling of them. Keep in mind, however, that the way these items were plated for our samples is likely not how they will actually be plated in the restaurant. In fact, Disney has shared images of what the dishes will look like when actually plated and we’ll share those below. Without further ado, let’s EAT!
1923 (Appetizers)
Our first stop is 1923 for some appetizers. This restaurant is inspired by the founding of the Walt Disney Company and the evolution of animation over the years.
Our first dish was the Porcini Spiced Ahi Tuna, which is served with Pickled Lotus Root, Oyster Mushroom, Black Sesame Brittle, and a Wasabi and Yuzu Mayonnaise. Below is a photo of the sample size we got…
…and here’s a photo of what the item will actually look like when fully plated.
We’ll be honest here, our reporter who tried this item is not a fan of mushrooms or tuna, and many of the items in this dish are not normally what they’d order or eat. But, that didn’t take away from this dish’s positive traits. The tuna itself tasted VERY fresh and not that fishy. It is served cold, and overall we felt like it was what you’d likely expect if you ordered some ahi tuna in a traditional restaurant.
The black sesame brittle was an interesting addition, which had a unique texture and added a nice level of sweetness to the dish.
The wasabi and yuzu mayo was also very unique and not something you see everyday. It was a little citrusy, but also had that kick of wasabi spice to it. That kick might not be something you’d expect (though it does say it has wasabi), so that’s just something to keep in mind.
Next, we got to try the Fennel, Bartlett Pear, and Tatsoi Salad, which also features Manchego Cheese, Walnuts, and a Sherry Dressing.
Below is a photo of the sample size we got…
…and here’s a photo of what the item will actually look like when fully plated.
Again, this dish contains ingredients that normally wouldn’t be at the top of our reporter’s list, but there were parts of it they really enjoyed. The fennel had a crisp and spicy (not spicy hot, but spicy in terms of spice and bite) flavor to it. That was balanced out nicely by the sweetness of the Bartlett Pear.
The Manchego cheese was probably one of their favorite parts of this dish! It was a wonderful, creamy addition and added a sort-of nuttiness which was very tasty.
The walnuts in the salad also add robustness to that nutty flavor.
If you’re looking for a salad with a bit of bite, a bit of sweetness, a bit of creaminess, and a bit of nuttiness all rolled up in one, this might be a good choice.

Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure (Entrees)
Next, we make our way to Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure for 2 entrees. This restaurant celebrates the engagement of Anna and Kristoff (picking up right after Frozen 2) with a unique dining experience full of characters, dishes, and more inspired by the films.
From Arendelle, we got to try the Seared Chilean Sea Bass, which is served with White Asparagus, Petite Leeks, Savoy Spinach, Romanesco, Peas, Kohlrabi, Rainbow Carrots, Seared Scallop, Pea Tendrils, and Mjod (mead) Vinaigrette.
Below is a photo of the sample size we got…
…and here’s a photo of what the item will actually look like when fully plated.
If sea bass or a similar type of fish is something you’ve enjoyed on previous Disney cruises, you’ll probably enjoy this. Overall, our reporter who tried this is not a big fish fan, but they noted that the Sea Bass didn’t taste too fishy, which was nice.
The vegetables served with the fish were definitely interesting, especially those white asparagus and leeks. The vegetables seem to be heavily inspired by the restaurant’s overall goal of serving flavors from the Nordic region.
The vegetables we had were fine, but a bit bland. There just wasn’t a lot in terms of flavor when it came to the vegetables. The sea bass is really what provided the most flavor in this dish, at least when we sampled it.
Next, we tried the Juniper Spiced Roasted Free Range Chicken, which is served with Scallion, Duck Fat Fried Potato, and Estragon Wild Mushrooms.
Below is a photo of the sample size we got…
…and here’s a photo of what the item will actually look like when fully plated.
The chicken we got with this dish was quite bland and a bit overdone. That could be due to the setting of this media preview (the dishes likely had to be made further away from the conference room and then rolled all the way over to us), but still, we felt like there just wasn’t a lot of seasoning or flavor when it came to the chicken itself.
The duck fat fried potato tasted very good and it was nice to have those wild mushrooms as another touch of that Nordic menu influence.
The dish notes that it is specifically a juniper spiced chicken. According to Smithsonian Magazine, the dark little berries of juniper trees are known in the culinary world as juniper berries. Dried juniper berries are used as a spice in Northern European cooking, especially in Scandinavia.
In terms of its flavor, it provided the chicken with a very herbal flavor. Smithsonian Magazine describes them as having a “slightly piney flavor with a touch of both fruitiness and pepperiness.” That unique flavor might not be something you’re necessarily prepared for on a cruise ship, so it’s something to be aware of!
The herby flavor provided by the juniper spice is not something that really bothered us with this dish, but it’s just something to be aware of.

Worlds of Marvel (Desserts)
Finally, we got our super hero suits on and made our way to World of Marvel for dessert. First, we tried the Sticky Fig Pudding, which is served with Salted Caramel Coconut, a Balsamic Glaze, and Vanilla Ice Cream.
Below is a photo of the sample size we got…
…and here’s a photo of what the item will actually look like when fully plated.
Overall, we felt like this dish was fine. We’re not sure how many guests will select a fig pudding over other, more “traditional” dessert offerings like chocolate-focused desserts. But, it was a fine dessert offering in our opinion.
The balsamic glaze was interesting. It’s something that does have a more unique flavor, so we’re not sure if kids will really enjoy that. That’s something to keep in mind if you plan on ordering this dish and sharing a bite with the little ones.
Finally, it was time for our last dish — the Flourless Chocolate Beetroot Cake, which is made of a Chocolate Cake, Pepper Beetroot, and Milk Chocolate Soil.
Below is a photo of the sample size we got…
…and here’s a photo of what the item will actually look like when fully plated.
This dessert was pretty good! We’re big fans of flourless chocolate cakes and this one was well done. The “soil” was essentially made of cake crumbles, but they tasted good.
And that’s our first look and review of some of the dishes you’ll find on Disney Cruise Line’s NEW restaurants! What do you think? Which items look the most exciting to you? Let us know in the comments. Be sure to stay tuned for more Disney Cruise Line news.

I’m not sure if like any of these dishes! Yikes. I’m booked on the July 1 cruise on the Wish. What is wrong with a filet and lobster tail. My biggest complaint on my last Disney Cruise was the food. It was terrible. The seared Tuna could have been bounced off the wall, it was so overdone.. I had high hopes with this being a new ship but honestly… serve food people generally like and prepare it correctly. I’m not really a picky eater but these selections just didn’t look appealing or appetizing. Sometimes less really is more.

Who cares about the food… any word on the new Disney Wish Island that is being build exclusively for the Wish guests? What will it be called, same features as Castaway Cay or will it be different… I hope they have a better BBQ than Cookie’s. How about it ? What has anyone heard ? I hear rumors that the Wish is not selling out…

I’m not super impressed with any of the DCL MDR menus, but these are just… really odd decisions. I’m going on my first cruise – not just first Disney cruise, first cruise EVER – on the Wish this July, and I’m starting to get really antsy about the food. People keep telling me to order the steak if I don’t want the fancy stuff, but as much as I like steak, I don’t want it multiple nights in a row. They also say to just ask for something if I don’t see what I want on the menu, but I really hate the idea of “guessing” what else they might have on board and being a gigantic pain to our server. I get that they want to present a cohesive themed experience at dinner, but I wish they’d provide a “master menu” of everything that’s possible for those of us who eat “normal” food. I’m working really hard to keep a positive attitude though, and I’m confident I won’t starve :-).

Brian, don’t fret!! I can be a picky eater and steak is my first love. Like you, it’s not something I want every night but rest assure that your server will get you just about whatever you want, even if it’s on a different menu! ; ) We did a carnival cruise after sailing with Disney a few times. Never ever again! Even if there are no kids and it wasn’t the food that was an issue on Carnival. Lol we will be on the Wish in July!!
