Being a Disney Vacation Club Member can come with some perks.
DVC Members get to stay at some of the best Disney resorts, get early access to events and attractions, exclusive merchandise, discounts, and the ability to book things like the Star Wars Hotel before everyone else. But one DVC perk will be changing in 2022.
Previously, DVC members received a blue membership card in the mail every year. As of December 31, 2021, though, that card is expiring for all members.
However, starting in January 2022, all DVC members will be able to access their Membership card digitally through the My Disney Experience app through the Magic Mobile feature.
In the meantime, though, “all Members may continue to identify themselves and take full advantage of current Membership Extras offerings (if eligible) by using their current physical card or by accessing the digital version online at DisneyVacationClub.com/card.”
The change to the membership card from physical to digital, though, does NOT affect current DVC benefits. However, an official government-issued ID is still needed to authenticate members’ identities and will be required when presenting their DVC membership card.
We’ll let you know if we find out about any other changes that DVC Members might need to know about, so stay tuned for more!

So now I have to pull out my id and THEN pull up my membership card, thereby making it TWO places I have to access to use my membership card! When I could use the card, all I had to do was pull out two pieces from ONE place which is a lot less of a hassle. Does Disney stay up at night thinking of new ways to make things more cumbersome?
Randy says
We are fine with the digital membership cards. I still have the plastic one which I gaze at now and then when thinking back on our wonderful family memories at WDW, The Boardwalk and The Polynesian.
Ken says
This is not guest focused by any means. Why are they making it more difficult to access the benefits of being a DVC member. We members should voice our opinion at the annual meeting in December and vote that lady who runs DVC out. DVC was a much friendlier and guest focused entity when former DVC leader Ken Potrock was in charge.
Todd says
DVC members who complain about this are just looking for things to complain about. I forgot to bring my card on a recent trip because I don’t carry it daily. I easily downloaded it and saved it in my photos. It was no hassle at all. Considering that everyone has to access an app to do pretty much everything in WDW these days, this shouldn’t have been a surprise and is hardly something to get worked up about.

Disney folks still haven’t explained, WHY?? they’re cancelling the cards. Go ahead and give us an explanation. I’m sure we have the where with all to comprehend a reasonable fact based explanation. By eliminating plastic cards, are we saving the environment? I have the the same card that I was issued in 1993. The ball is in your court.
P.s. I posed the same question to guest services and I’m still awaiting an answer

How will this work purchasing merch on Disney cruises ? The WiFi is so eye wateringly expensive that it will negate any discount offered by DVC membership when you try to download the card!
Carol says
I’m not happy about this. It makes no sense to me. I may be in the minority but I like having the card. It’s there. I can see it. Hold it. I guess I’m a tactile person
Don says
I say good for you Todd, I don’t have a cell phone. Where’s my card?

The word in the hospitality industry is Disney is looking to sell DVC to a large time share company (Marriot?). This way they can lease the land, let the other company handle the reservation system, handle the maintenance and ground transportation. Disney takes a smaller profit but doesn’t have the huge headache or running a non-entertainment business. Can’t blame them…
