Back in 2020, Disney announced the permanent closures of three Disney World attractions, one of which was Primeval Whirl in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
We’ve been watching all the Primeval Whirl changes that have been made since the announcement, and today we’ve reached an important milestone of a Disney World ride demolishment, and it’s official. Primeval Whirl is no more.
If you don’t remember, Primeval Whirl was a seasonally operated spinning roller coaster located in DinoLand U.S.A. of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney announced back in 2020 that the ride was permanently closed, and up until September of 2021, not a whole lot changed.
In September 2021, construction walls went up and Disney began demolishing the ride. As of last week, part of the ride still remained.
But as of today, the ride is officially gone. RIP Primeval Whirl.
Disney has not yet revealed the replacement for this ride, so we continue to watch closely for an announcement about the future of DinoLand U.S.A.

Todd says
DinoLand and the opening version of California Adventure are examples of Disney’s least impressive work. I understand the storyline, but it has always come off as a cheap mistake and not the level of quality and immersion that guests expect in a Disney park. A land dedicated to dinosaurs continues to have appeal and fits within Animal Kingdom, but the execution of it needs to take a 180-degree turn from DinoLand.
Trevor says
Just for fun they should have taken the dinosaur on the ride with the “The End is Near” sign and put it on the construction wall.
Ken says
Disney can do a lot better than Primeval Whirl… let’s hope so anyway…
Bobbie says
My daughters and I are in mourning over the loss of Primeval Whirl. We loved the ride. My husband/their dad, not so much. Was it hokey? Yes, but so is everything else in Dinoland.
Kelly says
Unpopular opinion: My family loved this ride!!! I was so sad when I heard it was going away. Thanks for the memories, Primeval Whirl <3
K. Sullivan says
Something themed around Zootopia would fit so well in Animal Kingdom. Wish they would tether the whole section.
Pris says
It’s unfortunate that Disney execs didn’t follow through with the original plans of having an immersive dinosaur area in AK. As Todd said, it could have been something spectacular.
Wayne says
The whole area needs to be reimagined! The area feels like Disney had a few extra bucks laying around and felt bad about Beastly Kingdom not coming to fruition. “Alright…. I guess we have enough money for a midway… put some dinosaurs around it…. you know, as a nod to that other idea…”
