It’s the holiday season at Disney World, and we’ve been checking out ALL of the festivities!
We’ve seen decorations pop up in the parks and hotels, special food added to the menus around the resort, and even went to the first night of the Disney Very Merriest After Hours event. An iconic part of the holidays at Disney World are the gingerbread houses, and the most extravagant one is finally open for business!
The Grand Floridian’s famous life-size gingerbread house is finally complete and open!
Located in the hotel’s lobby, the house is made with real gingerbread and will sell a variety of holiday treats throughout the season.
There’s actually a sign by the house that lists all of the ingredients it took to make the giant treat, which includes 1,050 pounds of honey, 700 pounds of chocolate, and 800 pounds of flour (plus some Disney Magic and Pixie Dust for good measure!).
This year the gingerbread house has taken on a special look in honor of Disney World’s 50th anniversary. The EARidescent colors have made their way into the design, with blue and gold accents everywhere, including a lot of blue plants around the house.
We’re not sure how we feel about the look for the house this year. It’s very different from the houses we’ve seen in the past that have featured mainly red and green.
It’s just…it’s a LOT of blue.
If you look closely, you can see Mickey shaped ornaments hanging from the house with the 50 on them.
And, you can actually buy these ornaments, too! Matching 50th gingerbread ornaments you can eat are being sold as one of the treats you can get from the house.
There is a sign next to the house that lists all of the treats you can buy — here’s a look at everything you can get:
The treats were being displayed on a table when we went to check out the house this morning.
Also, the register wasn’t set up at the house yet, so we had to check out at the Sandy Cove Gift and Sundries store.
The gingerbread house will open every day at 9:30AM and close at 9PM, so stop by to see the amazing artistry and get some festive sweets!

What do you think of all the blue decor on the gingerbread house this year? Let us know in the comments!

WOW! It stinks that my parents won’t take me + my brothers here during the holidays because of school and crowds!
Ken says
Bigger is not always better unless they made some provisions of enlarging the guest full filament window. The waiting service lines have been so long no the counter was so small, it made it an unpleasant experience to purchase anything. I have been buying a piece of gingerbread roofing for 31 years for my daughter and am looking forward to adding it to her stocking this year, if the service line is shorter.
Kathy C says
The house is beautiful, but should be red and green. Major fail! What about the other decorations at the Grand Floridian? Are they also blue? Kathy
Cindy says
Without the red and green it doesn’t look as “Christmassy”, but I’ll still go see it, buy something and enjoy!
