Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance continues to be an incredibly popular ride in the Disney parks.
In Disney World, the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance has currently been suspended, but guests hoping to ride this attraction in Disneyland still need to grab one of those elusive boarding groups. But, soon, things in Disneyland might be changing!
According to The Orange County Register, Disneyland will be “testing” the standby line for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy’s Edge next week. Yes, that means fans might get the chance to ride this popular ride WITHOUT having to sign up for a boarding group.
The OC Register says that this is being tested as Disneyland “prepares for the roll out of the new paid Genie+ line-cutting service.” Disneyland will test out a “hybrid” combination of a standby line and a virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance in Disneyland starting on Monday, November 22nd.
At the start of the day, Disneyland will begin with a standby queue for Rise of the Resistance (no virtual queue necessary). But, the park could activate the virtual queue on certain days and times.
This is somewhat similar to what we’ve seen done at WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure in Disney California Adventure, where Disney has indicated that the virtual queue may be suspended on some days (and in fact we saw it suspended there previously). But, they have warned that the virtual queue may be utilized for the Spider-Man ride as needed.
During this “test” of the virtual queue suspension at Rise of the Resistance in Disneyland, the twice-a-day virtual queue distributions at 7AM and noon will be paused. But, again, Disney may utilize the virtual queue on select days or times.
If you’re planning to visit Disneyland, be sure to check the Disneyland app ahead of 7AM and throughout the day to see if the ride is utilizing a virtual queue or standby queue.
Again, Disney has warned that the virtual queue for Rise could be activated on select days or at select times. If the virtual queue gets activated, there will be a BIG change in how you sign up. If it’s activated, you’ll have to sign up for the virtual queue from INSIDE Disneyland (you won’t be able to sign up from any other location). That’s really important to keep in mind.
Once Genie+ debuts in Disneyland, Rise of the Resistance will be one of the attractions available through Individual Attraction Selection (pay-per-ride). That means guests will have the ability to pay to use the Lightning Lane at that ride and skip the standby line (or virtual queue, if a virtual queue is in place). The standby line or virtual queue (if in use) will still be available for those who do not want to pay to use the Lightning Lane.
A launch date for Genie+ in Disneyland has not yet been announced.
UPDATE: As of the morning of November 22nd, 2021, the virtual queue section for Rise of the Resistance in the Disneyland app notes that they plan to open the virtual queue for the ride “as needed each day.” It also specifies that the standby line might be available at the opening of the park and after all boarding groups have been called for the day (if the virtual queue is utilized that day).
We’ll keep an eye out for more updates.

This is all so confusing. I wish they would stop changing things every other day.
