UPDATE: As of about 5:15PM, Splash Mountain was showing a 60 minute wait in My Disney Experience. Be sure to check for any future closures.
There are lots of new things to experience in Disney World right now — from new scenes in classic rides to new fireworks shows.
But, sometimes all you want to do is ride the classic rides — like one of Magic Kingdom’s three big mountains for example. Well, if you’re heading to Magic Kingdom today and planning to do the 3 mountain challenge, you might find a bit of an issue.
Earlier this morning, we walked past Splash Mountain and noticed that it was down and no water was flowing down the drop in the ride.
We saw a Cast Member working on the ride as well.
We spoke to a Cast Member who shared that the ride was down and it would be a while before it was back up again.
The Cast Member actually specified that this is a “rare occasion” where the ride might be closed the entire day. We’re not sure what caused this closure or why it might be so extended, but we’ll be on the lookout for more updates.
As of about 12:00 PM, the ride is still “temporarily unavailable” according to My Disney Experience.
It’s a good reminder that even during peak busy times (like the day before Thanksgiving) rides can experience issues and go down (sometimes for extended periods of time).
These closures can have ripple effects throughout the park. For example, we noticed that the line for the nearby Thunder Mountain was VERY long (we’re talking way down the bridge).
The wait time itself, however, wasn’t that bad at around 55 minutes.
If a popular ride goes down during a peak busy season in Disney World, you may find that other popular rides (especially nearby ones) will have extremely long lines as guests try to find other spots to visit in the park. If you’re visiting during the busy season, try to stay flexible with your plans so that you can adjust in situations like this one and still make the most of your day.
