EPCOT has been undergoing major construction for several years now, with one of the biggest and most anticipated projects being the new indoor roller coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Even after opening up new shops AND a new restaurant, there’s still a lot of work to be done in EPCOT. And up until today, a majority of the area near the Guardians of the Galaxy building has been closed off to guests, including nearby areas and walkways. Now some space has been opened up, so take a look!
Not long ago, we caught a glimpse of the construction progress on the area surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind during a ride on the Monorail, and you can even see the PLAY! Pavilion (aka the big gold dome) in the background. It looked like there was still a lot of work to be done.
Now, the construction walls have been pushed back a bit to reveal a LOT more space! The new open area is near Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in the World Discovery neighborhood, with the highly anticipated indoor roller coaster currently scheduled to open in Summer 2022.
There’s a lot more space to walk around and check out the Guardians building, though some construction walls remain.
There’s some greenery to enjoy too, and you get a great view of Spaceship Earth.
It’s a bit easier to get to the Mission: SPACE area now, and there’s a lot more space to escape the crowds, take a break, and have a seat.
You can even get a closer look at the PLAY! Pavilion building! We can’t wait to check it out.
We’ll be watching closely for more EPCOT construction progress as the opening time for Guardians gets closer! Keep reading DFB for more Disney World news and updates!

I have to wonder… you referred to the Guardian’s of the Galaxy as a ride and not an attraction…? Disney was always so adamant about not calling their attractions…”rides”. I feel that Disney, and even more so Epcot are moving away from the attraction/learning experience to more of a Thrill Ride Action Park and less of a Theme Park. Oh well…
