PHOTOS & VIDEOS: The Spaceship Earth Lights Just Got Even BETTER in EPCOT

As part of the 50th Anniversary, all of the Disney World park icons have new nighttime “Beacon of Magic” looks.

Spaceship Earth’s new nighttime lighting is actually a permanent addition to this park icon and it’s GORGEOUS. But, now this nighttime lighting got just a bit better!

Today the 2021 EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays started, bringing all kinds of festive snacks, entertainment, and merchandise to the park. The Candlelight Processional is also back. But now, there’s one MORE reason why you’ll want to visit EPCOT during the holidays (and stay until it gets dark).

The gorgeous Beacon of Magic lighting of Spaceship Earth now features a new holiday section!

During this new section, you’ll hear a bit of festive music and see some stars sparkle and fall down Spaceship Earth (much like snowflakes). You’ll also get to see some gorgeous colors shine across the park icon.

If you’re planning on visiting EPCOT during the holiday season, this is a fun and quick little “show” of sorts that you won’t want to miss.

If you feel like some of the patterns in the lighting might be familiar to you, then you might be right! Imagineer Zach Riddley shared that the lighting display references some “visual elements from the Lights of Winter holiday display that graced the World Showcase bridge from 1994 until 2008. Fans of EPCOT’s history may even be able to pick out these visual elements.” If you ever saw these lights (which were pretty spectacular in our opinion!!) then hopefully this little nostalgic element will make you smile.

Riddley also shared that some of the programming is meant to represent the starlight in a clear winter sky and the green and blue glow of the Aurora Borealis.

It truly is a sight to see. Catch it on a cool night with some hot chocolate in hand and you’ll really get into the holiday spirit. Note that from what we’ve seen it seems this lighting sequence and the regular “Beacon of Magic” one seem to rotate or alternate.
