It may come as no surprise that, here at DFB, we’re alllll about the food at Disney World.
And, let’s face it — Disney makes a LOT of food for all of us hungry vacationers. But, lots of food can sometimes mean that some goes to waste if it is out too long, not prepared correctly, or if our bellies are too full. So, what happens to Disney World’s food waste after it leaves the parks and resorts?
Well, Dr. Mark Penning, VP of Animals, Science & Environment at Disney, has your answer! He shared in a recent Instagram post that most of Disney’s food scraps actually head to a composting facility to be recycled and turned into soil for gardening, farming, and landscaping.
And, we even got a behind-the-scenes look at what happens to all those pumpkins that line Main Street, U.S.A. around Halloween — they go to the apes and monkeys in Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
That’s not a bad deal for those apes and monkeys! And, if you want to learn more about how Disney cares for its animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the Living Seas, be sure to check out Magic of Disney‘s Animal Kingdom on Disney+.
