Disney’s Magical Express is set to be discontinued in 2022, meaning guests will have to find another way to get from Orlando International Airport to their Disney hotels.
So far we’ve shared a look at what a ride share service like Uber would cost, and we’ve shared details about Mears Connect, a service from Mears that is essentially meant to replace the Magical Express. But now a NEW Magical Express replacement service that even has themed buses has been announced!
According to a press released shared on PR Newswire, Transportation Management Service (TMS) has just announced the launch of a new themed bus experience that will take guests from Orlando International Airport to their Disney World hotels. The new service is called The Sunshine Flyer.
According to the press release, this new form of transportation will “allow guests to start the magic of their Disney vacation from the moment they step off the plane.”
The buses that will be used by The Sunshine Flyer are premium motor coaches that are themed around “old-fashioned passenger cars and train engines.” The buses feature fun designs on the outside and the staff are set to be dressed as 1920s rail conductors and engineers, really adding to that overall theme. The press release shares that the buses will “effectively serve as time-machines, offering a glimpse into 1920s rail travel.”
Frank Sherman, the CEO of TMS shared that “through The Sunshine Flyer, we’re able to give guests the chance to start their vacation from the minute they step off the plane, and turn what used to be a procedural drive into the beginning of an adventure to remember.” Not familiar with TMS? They’ve had 25 years of experience as a transportation company for big events like the FIFA World Cup and more.
The buses will service all of Disney’s resorts, feature a bathroom, have USB chargers, and have 3-point seatbelts. Guests who want to use The Sunshine Flyer will book their tickets online and get a QR code that they’ll scan once they get to Orlando International Airport.
If you want to use The Sunshine Flyer though, you’ll have to wait just a bit. Its service to the resorts won’t start until February 1st, 2022.
The Sunshine Flyer is also doing something special for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World. In honor of the special occasion, The Sunshine Flyer will be donating 50% of all revenue made from the first 50,000 passengers during their first 50 days of business to Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida. Also, all Make-A-Wish children and their families will get complimentary service through the Sunshine Flyer for their Disney wishes indefinitely.
If you want to book a trip through The Sunshine Flyer, you must do so at least 4 days ahead of your arrival. Tickets are priced at $17 per adult and $12.50 per child for a 1-way trip. Round trip is $34 for adults and $25 per child. Kids under 2 ride free.
As a comparison, here is the pricing for Mears Connect. Standard serviceĀ isĀ $16Ā one way andĀ $32Ā round trip per adult, andĀ $13.50Ā one way andĀ $27 round trip per child (ages 3-9).
Express service is $250 round trip for up to 4 people, and then each additional person is an extra $55. There is currentlyĀ no one-way Express service ā you can only use it for round trip.
The Sunshine Flyer website has more details about the service. According to their website, there will be entertainment available throughout the trip…
…and they will be located in the Main Terminal Building at the airport on Terminal B.
The website notes that guests should not wait more than 20 minutes to board the bus and the route is meant to be scheduled so that guests don’t have to be on the bus for more than 65 minutes before they reach their stop.
There will be a 72-hour cancellation policy…
…and the website also shares details about information you’ll need before your return trip.
In terms of car seats, the website notes that car seats are permitted on the motor coach.
In terms of luggage service, their website notes that as of the launch they will not have a luggage handling service, but that they do hope to launch a service by the summer.
The Sunshine Flyer also notes that they will be adding new locations to their service in 2022, including Orlando hotels and other Disney Partner hotels.

These look cute, and I will definitely consider trying it out. Too bad none of these services offer the luggage surface – that was the best thing about magical express. Without that, Iām tempted to just stick with a rideshare since itās a lot quicker.
Susan Burgess-Parrish says
Are any of these new options considering luggage service similar to DME??
K. Sullivan says
We just booked this for our trip in February. Excited and hope itās everything they say it is.
Zach says
This looks like great competition for Mears. I think I would prefer this.

Susan, both the Sunshine Flyer and Mears Connect say on their websites that they’re looking into luggage handling. Neither offers it at their start dates. Sunshine Flyer says they’re hoping to have it by summer 2022, and Mears Connect does not offer a date as of yet.
William Randolph says
The first one that does Luggage will get my business
Essie says
Looks like a great option, but I agree with the others; the first with luggage services will win. Also, I don’t have the ability for QR codes.š
Rich says
Love the buses (umm . . . trains). How did they pull this together so quickly without anyone noticing?
I wonder if Disney considered keeping Magical Express but charging for it? Probably could have included complimentary Magical Express service for the most expensive hotels but charged a fee for the less premium resorts.
Bob Schlink says
Iāve rode the magical express for many years. Now I canāt wait to ride the new Sunshine Flyer. Will they some days do air port to air port luggage in the future.

Bob, both Sunshine Flyer and Mears Connect say they’re looking into luggage handling as an option. Hopefully one or both will have a plan in place soon!
