The holidays have arrived in Disneyland!
We’ve eaten all kinds of snacks at the Festival of Holidays, shared details about the “it’s a small world” holiday edition, and even attended their new Merriest Nites holiday after hours events. But today we got to experience a truly time-honored tradition at Disneyland — the iconic (and giant) hand-crafted candy canes!
The candy canes have been available on select days in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park over the past few weeks. Today we got the chance to grab one over at Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure Park. As we peeked through the windows, we could see them being worked on by the talented Cast Members.
You might be thinking, “what’s so special about a candy cane?!” Well, at Disneyland, these candy canes are VERY special! These aren’t your ordinary bought-from-the-store treats. These are unique tasty treats that are hand-crafted by Cast Members during the holiday season.
From mixing those ingredients to hand-pulling…
…rolling, and twisting the candy — these are truly something special.
And they’re HUGE. The candy canes all measure around 18 inches long.
The hand-crafted candy canes have been a tradition at Disneyland since way back in 1968! But getting one isn’t all that easy.
For starters, the candy canes are only available at select locations on certain days. Here’s a look at the remaining available days to grab one of these:
- Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure park: December 22nd (today)
- Candy Palace and Candy Kitchen at Disneyland park: December 23rd
They were available on previous days as well, but those are the remaining available dates.
Even if you happen to be in the appropriate parks on those dates, you can’t just walk up and buy a candy cane. To even get a chance to buy one of these beauties, you’ll need to enter into the mobile waitlist. We arrived at Disney California Adventure park very early (around 7:15AM PST). They let us in around 7:30AM.
There was about a 10 minute line at the time of guests trying to get on the mobile waitlist for Trolley Treats to get their candy canes. The QR code to scan to get on the list was covered up. When it was your turn in line, the Cast Member would uncover the code so you could scan it and get on the mobile waitlist. That QR code directed us to a website where we put in information about the size of our party, our name, and our phone number.
Just getting on the waitlist doesn’t guarantee you the ability to get a candy cane though. You’ll need to see if you receive a return text informing you that you are able to go in and make the purchase. About 30 minutes after joining the waitlist, we got our return text letting us know we had 30 minutes to get back to Trolley Treats and grab our candy cane…so off we went!
Note that there is a limit of 1 candy cane per guest, while supplies last.
We were able to go visit Trolley Treats during our return time and pick up a candy cane of our very own. Hello beautiful!
Holding one of these treats in our hands, near the other Christmas decorations, put us right in the holiday mood!
If you want to get one of these, be sure to arrive early! Keep in mind that you will need valid admission and a park reservation to enter the park and buy one. They’re priced at $19.99.
We’ll keep an eye out for more updates about Disneyland and we’ll let you know what we find.
