Okay, so Disney World is currently obsessed with the color blue — and we’re not just talking about the 50th anniversary merchandise, but also with the 50th anniversary FOOD.
We’ve eaten SO MUCH blue dye, y’all, with all the 50th anniversary snacks. Like we can’t even. From blue cupcakes to blue drinks to blue cronuts, we wouldn’t be surprised if our fingers aren’t permanently stained blue. But we’re doing this so you don’t have to, so today, we tried yet another blue snack!
And this snack isn’t even 50th Anniversary-themed! It’s actually a New Year’s Eve-themed cupcake (also a Cinderella Cupcake — either theme works here!), but Disney World is so stuck on the color blue that it’s literally stuck in blue mode. Back this year is the Stroke of Midnight Cupcake. While last year’s version was chocolate, this year’s cupcake is a Vanilla Cupcake with Champagne Buttercream (BLUE Champagne Buttercream, mind you), Chocolate Pearls and a White Chocolate Clock to help us count down to midnight!
Despite the blue color, though, we actually liked the Champagne Frosting this time around (we had a hard time picking up on that flavor last year) — it almost had a light citrus flavor. The Chocolate Pearls on it also added a nice texture.
The cupcake itself was also very moist with a light vanilla flavor.

A look inside will reveal even more changes from last year’s version — there’s a delicious filling with the same flavor as the frosting (last year’s cupcake had an artificial-tasting strawberry filling, so this year seems to have been an improvement), as well as pearls of the BLUE frosting on top, just going to prove this cupcake DID NOT NEED TO BE BLUE. But we’re rambling now (blame the blue dye), because well, it’s delicious.
But we have to mention it because it bears repeating — this blue frosting WILL stain your hands, your mouth, and everything else it touches, just as it did last year! Guess the old year wants to leave a lasting impression on us!
So now that you’ve been warned — if you’d like to try this cupcake out for yourself, you can find it at Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for $5.99. And we’ll keep a look out for more New Year’s Eve treats at Disney World, so be sure to check back for more reviews soon!
