Update: As of January 5th, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is back up and running again.
Poor Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been going THROUGH ITÂ recently.
On top of huge holiday crowds, last week, we saw Rise of the Resistance go down AND have a 4-hour wait, along with popular attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, and Tower of Terror temporarily close. Now we’re into a new week and another Hollywood Studios ride is STILL having a rough time and we’ve got all the deets!
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios has closed yet again! The iconic roller coaster closed several times last week and continues to experience issues. Cast Members let us know that maintenance is in the building trying to correct computer glitches.
The last time the ride opened was early yesterday morning for around 20 minutes, but it has been shut down since. If maintenance is able to correct the issue, Cast Members told us it could take up to around two hours afterward to open the ride. Remember to be kind because this is something Cast Members have no control over!
Cast Members were blowing bubbles near the entrance. Keep in mind that if you’re using Genie+ today in Hollywood Studios, you probably want to focus on reserving other Lightning Lanes. The attraction may not open at all today. We will let you know if it does.
Nearby, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is still open…
…as is Rock Around the Shop if you’re in serious need of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster merchandise (who isn’t?).
And on the bright side, this is a great time to get a photo in front of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster guitar! With fewer people in the area, you might actually be able to get a rare Disney World picture without any photobombs in the background.
We’ll be monitoring this situation in Hollywood Studios so stay tuned for more updates, and keep reading DFB for more Disney World news!

Its never ceases to amaze me that EVERYTHING in Disney is going up except their stock ! Why is that ? Millions of dollars are paid to the executive staff yet stock prices are way down ! Where is all the money going ?

I don’t know, Jess. It seems to be catching lots of breaks.

I’ll show myself out.

It is plain to see that the Disney enterprise in central Florida has grown too fast and they clearly cannot handle the crowds. The ultimate answer is that Disney needs to build some additional guest attractions to accommodate the larger crowds. Apparently did not anticipate the widespread acceptance of the improvements made in the 1990’s to blossom into larger crowds. While they may have expanded Downtown Disney and the West Side into Disney Springs, they should have build a new competing dining/shopping complex on new Disney property which would have split the crowd into two different locations on property. As it is, the new Disney Springs is much to crowed to push the guests into every evening when the parks close down. Log jam. In reality, as obserd as it sounds, they need another park to take some of the overcrowding pressure at the existing parks. This makes little sence because it will ultimately lead to more guests on property overall. Another Park and another Disney Springs will solve a short term overcrowding issue, but will lead to the same result if successful…overcrowding. The only other alternative is to price the attractions high enough to keep the crowds down. This is what they are attempting to do right now. The only way to control the gate is to raise the prices to cut down on the massive surge of guests they are experiencing. Sad but true… they built a better mouse trap and now they cant control the amount of mice coming to eat the cheese….
