Gideon’s Bakehouse is about to change your whole perspective on Valentine’s Day!
When you think of the holiday, you think of sweets, right? Well, Gideon’s makes sweets over at Disney Springs, but they put a little twist on a lot of items. In the past, we’ve had chocolate chip key lime pie cookies, banana bread cold brew, and white chocolate coffee bean cookies. They have new items every single month, and for Valentine’s Day, they’re making some very interesting treats to spice things up!
We arrived at Gideon’s and got in line, where we were handed a little menu card. The front of the card features Valentina Broccha, who is apparently the source of the “secret history of Valentine’s Day,” according to Gideon’s.
On the back are all of the current items available, including this month’s specials.
The cookie this month is called the Eternal Flame. We tried this cookie last year, and now it’s back again! This cookie is $6 and is a cherry infused triple chocolate cookie laced with Gideon’s special house-made ancho, cayenne, and cinnamon spice mix and topped with chocolate covered cherries. Yeah, it’s a SPICY cookie!
But, how does it compare to our cookie experience last year? Well, this cookie is very, VERY heavy on the chocolate and cherry flavors, but it surprisingly wasn’t too spicy! We really loved those chocolate covered cherries, which helped lighten the richness of the chocolate a bit.
It was a little too rich for us, but if you’re a chocolate lover, you should enjoy this treat! If you like their normal triple chocolate cookie and the flavor of cherries, this is a home run. We were wishing for a bit more heat, though. If you want this cookie, it’s available while supplies last every day.
Now, for the Eternal Flame Cake! A slice of this is $9. It’s a 3-Layer Double Frosted Chocolate Cake with Red Cherry Buttercream and an outer layer of Chocolate Fudge Buttercream mixed with a little bit of that Eternal Flame spice. There are also Cherry Roses on this cake!
This cake is absolutely delicious! The buttercream is great, and the cherry flavor is a lot more subtle than in the cookie. It’s a very sweet and rich slice of cake, and wasn’t dry at all. We didn’t really pick up on any major spice though, so if you’re concerned it will be too spicy for you, you should be good (unless you’re like reallllly sensitive to spice!).
These cake slices are only available on Saturdays and Sundays while supplies last and are limited to 2 per person.
Now, for the Fire and Iced Coffee. This is a smooth Mocha Nitro Cold Brew with a warm spicy finish. And, it’s topped with red sugar crystals that bleed into your drink! You can get it regular or ask for extra heat.
This coffee was kind of strong, but the heat is VERY intense! It lingers in the back of your throat and stays with you. It’s like a peppery-hot cayenne type of spice. You for sure have to be able to tolerate spice to get this one — we’re not sure we can even drink the whole thing! You might want to split it with someone, honestly. This cold brew is available all month long!
Those are all of the special items at Gideon’s for February in Disney Springs! Head on over and try them out yourself if you want to add a little heat to your sweets. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney food news and reviews.
