We just visited Disney for the first time since moving to central Florida. We hadn’t been there since 1994.
We got the Florida Resident 2 day passes. We were going with family members who wanted to go to Epcot and Animal Kingdom. There were no children in our group. We went on a Wednesday and Thursday. A couple of weeks before we went, I tried to make online reservations for lunch. Every place was booked except for Chefs de France in Epcot and Tiffins in Animal Kingdom. So I made reservations for both. Our daughter did not like the menu at Tiffins, so she called the Rainforest cafe and was able to get a reservation there. The wait times for the rides at Epcot weren’t too bad on Wednesday and the lines moved quickly. We only went on two, Spaceship Earth, which we had done before and Soarin’ Around The World, which was new for us. We really loved it. When we got to Chefs de France they were taking people without reservations and it was half empty at 1:00 PM. Lunch was good, but not exceptional, especially for the price they charge. The escargot were very good. The atmosphere was better than the food. Since it wasn’t crowded, we were able to relax. The fireworks show, “Harmonious” at Epcot was great! Not so much the fireworks, (I’ve seen better, even in my own community) but the other visual effects and the music made the show. The next day we went to Animal Kingdom. The trek from the parking lot to the entrance was very long. We liked that the trees provide a lot of shade in the park. We only went on one ride, The N’avi River Cruise. We enjoyed it. The wait times for Flight of Passage were ridiculously long and no one really cared whether or not they went on it. I was not planning to go on it because a friend had described the way you have to sit on the ride and it sounded very uncomfortable. She said her back hurt for a week afterward. We went to the Rainforest Cafe for lunch. It also was half empty. I think they don’t have enough help and that is why they are limiting the online reservations. We enjoyed our lunch there more that we had at Chefs de France. My husband and I had the Thai stir fry, which was on a special limited menu.
I think it is deplorable that you have to pay $25 for parking, when the prices to enter the parks is so high and they no longer provide shuttle service to the gates. Doesn’t Disney make enough money on admission fees? I think parking should be included. Also every place has shops that sell overpriced merchandise and food. I mean $3.50 for a bottle of water is ridiculous. I think Walt Disney would be very disappointed if he were alive to today to see how greedy the operators of Disney have become.
