Ride closures happen pretty regularly in Disney World, and today is no different.
We can often see rides go down for technical difficulties, weather, or unknown reasons. But, they do usually reopen later in the day if they’re able to. Today, we saw two popular rides shut down in Magic Kingdom and the fire department responded.
Earlier this afternoon, both Space Mountain and the PeopleMover were closed in Magic Kingdom. The Reedy Creek Fire Department did respond to the incident, according to Ashley Carter, a reporter for Spectrum News 13. In her tweet, she says that a fire department spokesperson said there was no fire at either attraction.

Apparently, a smoking breakroom refridgerator was what caused the evacuation and ride closures, according to Katie Rice from the Orlando Sentinel. She said one engine responded to the incident and a firefighter unplugged the fridge. The department’s other units were then canceled.

Space Mountain is up and running again, while the PeopleMover is closed, according to My Disney Experience. The PeopleMover was open briefly after the initial closure, but has since closed again. We’ll continue to check to see when PeopleMover reopens.
