Disney has so many exciting movies being released this year!
Marvel’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder are both premiering this year, Pixar’s Lightyear will be released this summer, and Hocus Pocus 2 should be out around Halloween! One of the major movies coming out soon is Pixar’s Turning Red, which will have an exclusive release on Disney+. And, a Canadian company is doing something very special to celebrate the new film.
Air Canada has unveiled a new airplane themed the upcoming Pixar movie Turning Red, according to Yahoo! Finance. The animated film is set in Toronto, so it makes sense that Air Canada would be the one to create this cool new plane.
“As Canada’s largest airline and the country’s flag carrier, our collaboration with Disney and Pixar for Turning Red, directed by award-winning Canadian filmmaker Domee Shi is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Canadian talent and bring the best of Canada to the world…We wanted customers of all ages to be able to enjoy the special livery and be a part of the excitement around this very special Canadian moment,” said Andy Shibata, Vice-President, Brand at Air Canada, according to Yahoo! Finance.
Director of the film, Academy Award winner Domee Shi, said, “I made Turning Red a love letter to Toronto and everything Canadian, and now to see the film celebrated on the airline that literally brought my family and me over from China when I was little is especially meaningful to me. I cannot wait for Canadian audiences and people around the world to see the film, and hopefully fall in love with Canada just like I have.”
Air Canada will be promoting the film by using the themed Airbus A220 that will fly across the country. And, starting this month, Air Canada passengers will get to see a special Turning Red video, inspired by the film’s trailer. There will also be a seatback city guide on select aircraft that will show director Domee Shi’s favorite places in Toronto. AND, on planes going to Toronto, an animated landscape of the city will be show on seatback screens.
Next month, the March issue of Air Canada enRoute magazine will feature a custom-illustrated cover of Toronto with Meilin Lee as the panda (the movie’s main character) gazing across the city, as well as a feature interview with director Domee Shi, according to Yahoo! Finance.
But, that’s not all the airline is doing to celebrate the film! Air Canada is also launching a contest celebrating the release of Turning Red, offering 5 prize packages. Each package features a trip for 4 people to Toronto to attend the Canadian premiere special event of the film on March 8th! The contest runs until February 20 for residents of Canada and you can enter by going to the website here.
Pixar’s Turning Red will premiere on Disney+ in both Canada and the United States on March 11th, 2022. It’s about Meilin Lee, a 13-year-old that turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets excited! You can learn more about the film here.
