If you think you know everything there is to know about Buzz Lightyear from Disney’s Toy Story, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Disney previously announced that a new film, Lightyear, would finally tell the full origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero that inspired the toy we all know and love from the Pixar movies. We’ve already seen a teaser for the film, but today we got a full trailer and WE ARE PUMPED.

As we mentioned, Lightyear tells the story of Buzz Lightyear — the hero that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy seen in the Toy Story films. According to Disney, Buzz Lightyear is a “legendary Space Ranger on an intergalactic adventure.”

Director Angus MacLane shared, “Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about…In ‘Toy Story,’ there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my ‘Lightyear’ pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.”

Between the giant robots, aliens, action, epic music, and a robot cat, it looks like there will be a LOT to see in this new film. The film will feature the voice talents of Chris Evans (Buzz), as well as Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi “as a group of ambitious recruits.” Peter Sohn will voice Sox, Buzz’s robot companion. Other cast members include Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (who many will recognize from his original score in Up and other movies), will score Lightyear.

Lightyear will be released on June 17th, 2022. We’ll be sure to look for more updates and share that with you!
