You may know a lot about the Disney Company’s past, and all of the things that are going on now (in the present), but where will the company be heading in the future?
We’ve heard some Disney executives discuss things related to NFTs, the metaverse, and other innovations that might be in Disney’s future. Recently Disney’s own CEO shared his thoughts on what the future of the Company could look like and one area where he thinks Disney will truly excel.
In a recent interview with CNBC, following the company’s reveal of their Q1 FY 2022 results, Bob Chapek sat down with Julia Boorstin to discuss the company’s financial situation and more. During the interview, they discussed the NFL, Disney+ subscribers, growth at the theme parks, guest spending in the parks on things like Genie+, and other topics.
In addition, Boorstin asked about the metaverse. Boorstin noted that this is something Chapek had indicated he was interested in and saw potential in previously. In this interview, Chapek reiterated that.
When asked about the metaverse, Chapek said it’s something he’s “excited” about. Chapek shared that he views it as “a third dimension of the canvas that we let our creative people paint.” According to Chapek, the metaverse will “take all the great things that [Disney has] as a media company…with Disney+ and use that as a platform for the metaverse.” But Chapek also noted that Disney has something that no one else has — the physical world of their parks.
Chapek said, “if the metaverse is the blending of the physical and the digital in one environment, who can do it better than Disney?”
Former Disney CEO and Executive Chairman Bob Iger also recently expressed how Disney could operate in this space. But he did note that there is a danger there with certain things like toxic behavior and proper monitoring.
Just what is the “metaverse?” Well, as Chapek sort-of noted above and as USA Today shares, the “metaverse” is “a combination of multiple elements of technology, including virtual reality, augmented reality and video where users ‘live’ within a digital universe.” Disney is already working on a Disney Theme Park metaverse, which would mix visually enhanced physical reality and virtual space.
We’ll definitely be interested in seeing how Disney’s involvement in a metaverse plays out in the future. Be sure to check back with us for all the latest details.

Here is an idea of how Disney can excel in the metaverse: send Bob Chapek there and install a CEO who really care about the guest experience!

Metaverse huh? Wouldn’t it be cool if you could experience one of the parks virtually without even being there. That’s a whole new type of Disney vacation. One with no crowds and no lines.
