Do you know who the true hero of Valentine’s Day is?
Some people will probably say it’s love. And we’re not trying to say that love ISN’T an important part of this holiday…but we have a different hero in mind. We’re thinking about chocolate! Chocolate is always there for us, and it makes us SO happy. With this in mind, we’re very excited to let you know that one of our favorite, limited-time chocolatey treats is now BACK in Disney World!
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and Disney World has a lot of new and returning treats to celebrate this holiday. We’ve already checked out a gorgeous cake pop, a trio of very pink drinks, and a Mickey rice krispie that got a Valentine’s makeover. Now, we’re visiting a Disney World hotel in search of a returning favorite.
We’re getting the Sweetheart Chocolate Cupcake, which we found at Pop Century Resort last year (although its name then was the “Call Me Sweetheart Cupcake”). This year, we headed to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort to grab it.
This is a chocolate cupcake filled with hazelnut cream, topped with chocolate hazelnut and strawberry buttercream. It’s decorated with a white chocolate heart and strawberry crisp pearls.
Last year we really enjoyed this treat, but does this year’s version live up to our happy memories?
First of all, it’s a tiny bit different now, with hazelnut cream filling instead of just a solid cupcake. Since our only complaint with last year’s cupcake was that we wished there were a stronger hazelnut flavor, we think this is the perfect solution!
The nuttiness from that hazelnut cream balances out the sweetness from the chocolate cake and strawberry buttercream. We loved the filling, and we wanted even more of it!
The cake was nice and moist, and there wasn’t too much buttercream on top, in our opinion. Sometimes Disney goes a little bit wild with the icing, but there was a pretty good balance of icing to cake in this treat.
The strawberry buttercream had a pretty artificial aftertaste, so this might not be your jam if you dislike artificial flavors. And we didn’t think the white chocolate heart decoration really added anything to the flavors, but it sure looked cute on top!
In general, we think both kids and adults can enjoy this cupcake. If you love chocolate and Nutella, this is the perfect treat for you!
But if you’re not a big sweets person, you might make it halfway through the cupcake and call it quits. The flavors are pretty well balanced, but it’s still a LOT of sugar.
If you want to try out the Sweetheart Chocolate Cupcake, you can get one for $5.99 from any of these Disney World hotel restaurants:
- Landscapes of Flavor at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Centertown Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (Note that this location did not have the cupcake when we stopped by recently. A Cast Member said they might not have it here until February 13th and 14th, but they didn’t know for sure.)
- Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
- Riverside Mill at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
- Everything POP Shopping & Dining at Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Good’s Food to Go at Disney’s Old Key West Resort
- The Artist’s Palette at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
It’s available now through February 20th, so make sure you get this treat before it’s gone! And keep following DFB for more reviews of all the newest snacks in Disney World.
