From news about all-time record revenues at the Disney parks to the arrival of a brand new cavalcade — we’ve got ALL of the Disney news you need to know right here! So pull up a chair or pop up that recliner, sit back, and join us for a recap of this week’s BIGGEST Disney news!
1 — Theme Park Capacity, Genie+, and More
This week, Disney held its quarterly earnings call and released its earnings report for Q1 of fiscal year 2022. Through the report and call, we learned some BIG updates when it comes to Disney’s financial status and the parks.
First up, the domestic Disney Parks and resorts hit some all-time RECORD revenue numbers. Essentially, the division nearly doubled its revenue as compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Click here to read more about those financial results.
In relation to those record revenue levels, we also heard that guests are spending more in the parks. We also got to hear a bit about just why guests are spending more and why prices are increasing in the parks. Click here to see what Disney CEO Bob Chapek had to say about it all.
When it comes to theme park capacity, we got to hear a bit about that too. In the earnings report, Disney shared that their parks are generally operating without significant capacity restrictions, but capacity is still being managed. Click here for more updates on theme park capacity.
If you’ve ever been to Disney World or heard about Disney Genie+ (the paid FastPass+ replacement system) you might be wondering just how many people are buying it. Well, we got an answer on that too! During the earnings call, Disney executives shared just how many people are actually buying Genie+ (and the number might surprise you!). Click here to learn more.
And finally, after the earnings call was over, we also got to hear Disney CEO Bob Chapek talk about one area where he thinks Disney could really excel — the metaverse! Just what is the metaverse and why does Chapek think Disney could do well in that space? Click here to find out!
2 — A NEW Cavalcade
Love seeing your favorite Disney characters floating down the streets of Magic Kingdom? Then get ready because a whole bunch of more friends have arrived as part of Disney World’s NEW Adventure Friends Cavalcade!
The new cavalcade officially premiered today (February 11th) in Magic Kingdom!
The cavalcade is one of the BIGGEST yet, with nearly 30 characters from Disney and Pixar including Nick and Judy, Baloo, Miguel, Merida, Moana, Elena, Toy Story characters, Clarabelle, and more!
And we can’t forget about Miguel from Coco!
Be sure to take a look at this new cavalcade’s showtimes for the dates you’ll be visiting so you don’t miss out!
Also, remember to head over to Frontierland as the Frontierland Hoedown is set to return!
This event doesn’t take place at set times (it’s more of a surprise!) so you’ll need to look out for it. Head over to Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. There, if you’re lucky and time it right, you might just find Cast Members and surprise Disney characters dancing along and hosting a (modified) hoedown for guests to participate in. It’s a great, secret, little Magic Kingdom delight!

3 — Limited Time Treats
If you’re heading to Disney World or Disneyland soon, there are lots of Valentine’s Day goodies and Black History Month food to enjoy! So far in Disney World, we’ve tried some tasty collard greens, Jollof Rice and Braised Beef, a sundae with Mickey and Minnie red velvet waffles, a FANTASTIC cupcake, and more!
At Disneyland, we’ve had a unique DOLE Whip creation, a specialty slushie, and more!
Be sure to see what limited time goodies might be available during your trip!

Another thing will also be coming back to Disneyland Resort soon — Soarin’ Over California (the version of Soarin’ that existed before Soarin’ Around the World)! This fan-favorite version of the ride will return for a limited time starting March 4th!
And finally, if you’ll be heading to Disney California Adventure Park’s Food and Wine Festival, Disney just shared the full list of food booths that will be available there! You can click here to see that list!
Disney also shared details about the special events you can pay to experience, celebrity chefs that will make an appearance at the festival, and more entertainment and merchandise details! We’ll be attending the Festival once it starts and will be bringing you all kinds of details and reviews so stay tuned for that!

5 — Disney+ Updates
Finally, we end our wrap-up with some Disney+ news! This week Disney shared an updated look at just how many Disney+ subscribers there are! As of the latest update, there are 129.8 MILLION total Disney+ subscribers!
There are a ton of things to watch on Disney+ already, but more things are coming soon! This week Disney shared when West Side Story will premiere on Disney+ and also announced the premiere date for the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney+!
But one new series that was set to come to Disney+ might not be reaching our screens any time soon. Recently Disney shared that the Beauty and the Beast prequel series that was previously set to come to the service has been put on HOLD.

More people are traveling now than they did the previous year, the resort raises its prices on everything, less employees to have to pay. It’s no mystery as to why they had a record year.
