Buffets are BACK at Cape May Cafe, but you might cry when you hear this news.
Cape May Cafe is located in Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and it reopened last year with a family-style menu. Now buffets have officially returned, and we got to try breakfast AND dinner. The BIG dinner question on our minds was very clear — what’s the situation with the crab legs?? Well, we have an answer, and you’re probably not going to like it.
We made were so excited to get our hands on some endless crab legs, which have been a classic favorite buffet dish at Cape May Cafe for a long time. When Cape May Cafe reopened with a family-style menu, we noted that crab legs cost extra, but we were hoping that endless crab legs would return once the buffet reopened. So we headed to the dinner buffet with visions of unlimited crab legs in our heads, only to find…they’re not unlimited. 😭
You can now “upgrade” your buffet meal and pay $29.99 per pound of snow crab legs, on top of the $42 price for the dinner buffet. Another seafood extra available at Cape May Cafe is Maine lobster, which will set you back an extra $42 for a pound and a third of lobster.

There’s no limit to how many pounds of snow crab legs you can order, but you’ll be charged $29.99 for each pound. That can add up quickly if you have several hungry people at your table ordering crab legs!
So is it worth it? That’s up to you to decide, but make sure you budget your meal accordingly if you really have your heart set on Cape May Cafe crab legs. Stay tuned to DFB for a FULL review of Cape May Cafe’s returning buffet!

I really wanted to go on my next trip but not now. Skip!
jim says
yeah, that sort of sums up Disney’s approach these days. Pay $42 for seafood, oh you want crab legs, you’ll have to pay again. Pay $900 for an annual pass. Oh you want to ride rides, you’ll have to pay again. Oh you paid again but want to ride the good rides, you’ll have to “pay again” again.
Sharon says
At least it is good news for snow crabs.
john j. says
as a local, the only reason most of us went to cape may was for the unlimited crab legs.
other than that, to be honest, the food was mediocre.
no way i would visit now. same goes for most of the people i know.
definitely not worth it. i mean even fogo de chao with 14 types of meat is only $55
and that includes a giant salad bar, sides, and unlimited meats. $71 for buffet food
and 1 lb. of crab or more for lobster = yeah no thanks!!!
Karen from Ohio says
This makes me so sad! Cape May *was* one of my favorite dinner buffets. I usually didn’t eat the crab legs, but my daughter and a couple of her friends loved them!! I don’t think we’ll be going back anytime soon 🙁
Charmaine Shannon says
Wanted to try “Cape May” and had a Reservation but Guess What …… “CANCELLED” !!!! Not paying Extra !!!! I 100+% agree with Jim , paid 1200×3 and “REFUSE” to pay any more for lesser Quality, lesser Respect, lesser Everything and will not be Renewing at this Level !!!! We as a Family work Hard and Long for Our Money and can’t afford to waste it on this Money Grabbing “GREED” !!!!!!
Tim Troxell says
This is really old news and even if it weren’t, is anyone surprised?
Dottyanna says
Boohoo, crossing Cape May off of my list! No reason to go there now!
Lila says
What is Disney even doing at this point…? I don’t even eat seafood but crab legs are on at our local Chinese Buffet but Disney can’t swing it at a deluxe hotel? I can defend price hikes but man… this is getting out of hand.
Gino says
when is enough going to be enough? are they trying to make WDW a white elephant?
LARA MURRAY says
That’s terrible 😕 Disney is stooping way too low. I’ve lost a lot of respect for them, sadly.
charles thorne says
I’ll pass but thank you….
Lynne says
It doesn’t end – pay more and more to get less and less. Disney is just not fun any more. At least we can enjoy our DVC resort (only our home resort since it’s next to impossible to book any of the other DVC resorts), skip the parks, and dine offsite. Maybe even visit other Orlando sites or parks!
Corinne Kalet says
It’s so sad to see all this upcharge and extra money for everything lately at Disney properties. They’re quickly out pricing middle class families and soon will only have rich families able to do anything. Not what Walt wanted.
Richard+Mercer says
I have always enjoyed Cape May, and my trip in December was no exception. While I enjoy crab legs, I find them to be almost more trouble than they’re worth to get out the small amounts of crabmeat. I will continue to eat there.
Elizabeth Middleton says
Wow that’s a very pricy meal. It’s ok I would have eaten them if they were on the buffet. But not paying $30 for a small cluster of crab legs. The outer shell is what gives it the weight and you throw that part away lol
John Staley says
CAPE MAY OFF THE LIST
Hellen says
The magic has definitely disappeared. Maybe they can bring back the crab legs with all the money they are saving by no longer paying a stock dividend.
MikeM says
Boy that is expensive. For that price might as well go to CRAFTY CRAB ORLANDO. Its right up by Disney Springs and its a true seafood broil that you can order and its half the price… We will make that our stop for seafood for now on.
SML says
Just another example of paying more for less. That seems to be the new Disney philosophy along with how high can we raise prices while providing the absolute minimum and what else can we take away. The magic just gets harder and harder to find.
Susan Conceicao says
We had a couple of reservations for our upcoming trip since the buffet is back but $42 + 30 for crab legs = CANCELED!!
Jesse says
Bob Chapek World(BCW) is booming! I’ve been saying this. Walt Disney World is NO LONGER. Everyone needs to accept it. BCW is for overseas tourists and the American elite. Chapek knows the average American can’t afford that. He knows what the price hikes will do to the average income customers. He is transforming the parks/resorts into the Beverly Hills play ground for the wealthy. Just accept it. People, there are so many other places to explore and create magical memories. It’s not like Bob Chapek World has the monopoly on making magical memories. Poor food quality, filthy restrooms, mediocre service, filthy parks, high prices, and the list goes on. What sounds good about this place.
Toni says
I think I’ll spend my money on a 1 bedroom DVC room. We can bring back takeout or cook our own if we so choose. Then we can do one or two dinners out. No buffets
Raymond Fournier says
Seals the deal for Us. We are never going to Cape May again.
Brittany says
I am just curious what the cost of the buffet was when the crab legs were included… Does anyone remember?
CC says
#CapeMayCrabLegGate
HEATHER Heath says
Is there anyway we can just go and order the crab legs without ordering the buffet? I can’t eat hardly anything on the broil because of food sensitives and allergies.
Elaine Bennett says
That is an absolutely ludicrous price for a 1# bucket of crab legs when WE ALL KNOW the body is the main weight. If they are going to do that, then TAKE OFF THE BODY AND ONLY HAVE CRAB LEGS IN HERE LIKE YOU ARE ADVERTISING. THIS IS GETTING ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!
