It’s that time! We’re headed to another Disney World restaurant reopening!
Most of Disney World’s restaurants have reopened by now, but there are still a few that remain closed. Today, we’re headed to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to check out the reopening of Jiko! We’ve already experienced other popular restaurants at this resort including Boma and Sanaa, but now it’s Jiko’s turn for the spotlight!
Atmosphere
When you arrive at the restaurant, you check in for your reservation. You can use Mobile Check-in through the My Disney Experience app, but we walked up to the host stand this time just to tell them that we had arrived. When our table was ready, it was time to go in!
When you step inside the restaurant, you’ll notice plenty of details that reflect African culture. The lighting against the wall sets a lovely ambiance.
Take a look at the ceiling where you’ll find what appear to be birds in flight!
And you won’t want to miss the hidden Mickey in the ceiling!
When you sit down you’ll find a lovely napkin and more at your table.

Plus you’ll get a fancy towel to clean your hands!
Now that we’ve admired the lovely space, it’s time to talk FOOD.
Eats and Drinks
Let’s take a look at Jiko’s menu to see what they offer! There are a few appetizers including a salad, wild boar, and a unique flatbread.
The entrees feature everything from chicken to lamb to filet mignon! The menu also includes three enhancements you can add on to your meal.
Jiko also has five desserts to choose from.
There are ALL sorts of drink options including Loose Leaf Specialty Teas, Kenyan Coffee, Dessert Wines, After-Dinner Drinks, and more!
And for the kiddos there’s a special menu with activities and food items just for them.
There are some kids drinks, appetizers, and a create-your-own-meal situation.
Now let’s get into our order! For our meal, we grabbed the Seychelles Martini and Kanu Old Fashioned.
Then, we dug into the bread that is provided here, which is giraffe bread with rice flour on top, an Egyptian flatbread with sesame seeds, and Jiko butter and black salt!
Next, we got some appetizers!
We ordered the Braised Wild Boar Tenderloin…
…Seared Scallops with Nhopi and Groundnuts…
…and the Duck Confit and Honey-Raisin Flatbread.
Let’s move on to our entrees!
We chose the Oak Grilled Filet Mignon…
…and the Heritage Chicken.
We also got some enhancements (AKA fancy sides). We ordered the Bobotie Mac and Cheese…
…and the Zulu Oxtail Samp and Beans.
Now, for dessert! You can take a look at the menu below:
First, we started with some dessert cocktails! We got the Zebratini and the Keoke Coffee.
For our desserts, we got 3, because why not?!
We ordered the Malva Pudding…
…the Melktert…
…and the Kilimanjaro.
Finally, to end our meal, we were brought out Blood Orange Fraindaise Candy.
We’ll be sharing a FULL review soon so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, we’ll keep you updated on the latest news in Disney World!

Hi!
There have been people trying to make reservations here at Kiki for July. They have not been able to. Is Jiko closed in July for some reason?
Dawn says
Sorry, spellcheck! KiKi was supposed to be Jiko🤣

We were there recently (early May, 2022). We’ve always loved dining here, but we were so very disappointed this time. After our (now boring) bread service there was a period of at least 40 minutes wherein no one in the restaurant was being served food. Clearly there was a problem. Things happen. When the food finally arrived, it just wasn’t as spectacular as it has been in the past. Honestly, it wasn’t very good at all. Take a look at the prices!
And no, we did not get the complimentary blood orange candy. No magic happening that night.
