To ensure we are equipping our readers with all the information they need, we will continue to report on all travel, safety, and COVID-related news that could impact a Disney Parks visit.
Changes can happen virtually overnight in Disney World; guidelines, attractions, and even decorations can change in the blink of an eye! Sometimes, a MAJOR change can take months to work out, but in many cases, guests are expected to adapt immediately. It can be tricky to keep up!
Speaking of changes, Disney recently updated its health and safety guidelines (again), making face masks optional both indoors and outdoors for vaccinated guests. There is still one instance where face masks are required, but Disney’s got you covered (literally) if you forget!
While face coverings are optional in most places in Disney World, guests are still required to wear a mask on enclosed Disney transportation, including Disney buses, monorails, and the Disney Skyliner.
Unless you have a car, you’ll probably need to use Disney transportation during your vacation. In fact, even if you bring your own car to Disney World, you’ll still need to use Disney transportation to get into the Magic Kingdom! From the Ticket and Transportation Center, you have a few options, including the Monorail, ferry boat, or bus.
On our way to the Magic Kingdom, we opted to take the Monorail, and so did this (MASSIVE) crowd of people!
As we boarded the Monorail, we noticed that Cast Members were handing out free disposable face masks.
We noticed two things during our ride on the Monorail:
- The Monorail cars are small and tightly packed with people — especially in the morning and at night!
- Some guests were not wearing face masks on the Monorail the day before, but we noticed that each guest had a mask on today when a Cast Member was monitoring guests.
We will continue to report what we’re seeing on Disney World transportation after the recent mask policy changes. In the meantime, stay tuned for all the latest Disney news and park updates.

They have actually been doing this since November, we kept on forgetting our facemasks and when we, “Parked Hopped” a little too early from AK to Epcot, we decided to ride around on the Monorail and they had them out for people that forget about their facemasks!
Just an FYI, If your “Facemask” breaks during your theme park experience you can go to the health center in that theme park to request a free mask!
Oh thank goodness! Husband’s Mask broke and we thought we had to purchase one, luckily they offered a free mask!
