Unless you’re some kind of super-human with LOTS of energy, determination, and luck, it can be tough to ride EVERY attraction in Disney World in one trip (particularly a short one) — even with a little help from Disney Genie+! Even if you don’t end up tackling all the rides in Disney, you can definitely knock out a good amount of attractions if you’re strategic about your days (though depending on the crowd levels it could be challenging!).
If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, this is an important Genie+ rule you need to know about because it could seriously impact your day!
Back in 2022, Disney made a CRITICAL change to Disney Genie+ guidelines. Regardless of whether you’ll be going to Disney World with a single-day ticket, multi-day ticket, annual pass, or any other ticket type, Genie+ CANNOT be added to your tickets or vacation package in advance.
Instead, (as of June 8th, 2022) all guests can only buy Genie+ ONE DAY at a time, on each DAY they want to use it.
So, let’s say you’ll be in Disney World for 5 days and want to use Genie+ for each day. On day 1 of your trip, you’ll get up early in the morning and buy Genie+ for that day. Then, you’ll do the same thing on day 2, day 3, day 4, etc. You cannot add the Genie+ option to your tickets in advance, you’ll need to buy it each day for your trip.
If you’re going for 5 days and only want to buy it on days 2 and 3, then you’ll be able to just get up earlier on those days to buy Genie+.
Genie+ generally becomes available for purchase starting at midnight on the day of your trip, so you can buy it as early as that time. Just note that you won’t be able to make your first Genie+ selection until 7AM.
To buy Genie+ on the day of your visit, open the My Disney Experience app. Hit the three horizontal lines to the right-hand side, select “My Disney Genie Day,” select “Tip Board,” and then hit “Purchase for Today” on the Genie+ banner.
Remember that the price for Genie+ varies by day so it may be more or less expensive on different days of your trip. We’ve seen it go up as high as $35 per person per day.
Keep in mind that Genie+ has SOLD OUT on select days. So if you want to make sure that you can use the service, you’ll want to buy it SOONER rather than later in the day. Our advice? Grab Genie+ early in the morning (well before you can make those first selections at 7AM). Then, at 7AM you can make your first pick and you’ll already have purchased the service (helping things go smoother).
Genie+ can feel confusing, and all that language can start to blur together, but we’ve got tons of posts that break down all parts of Genie and Genie+! In the meantime, stay tuned for all the latest Disney news and park updates!

Hi All, Just was wondering does this really make a difference since even if you bought Genie prior to your arrival you still couldnt reserve your first lighting pass until the day of your park visit so what did it buy you to get it earlier? Also my experience is that even buying it the day of I was never able to get a lighting pass for any of the rides I was looking to visit prior to end of the day so purchasing it guaranteed me a ride on only one of the rides I wanted to get on. Since you have to wait to use that pass before you can reserve the next one. Example I was able to get a lighting pass on big thunder railroad at 3 PM when reserving at 7:30 AM that morning so couldnt try for another pass until after 3 PM which meant non of the rides I wanted to ride next were had any remaining lighting passes left at that time. Would like to hear other experiences and what this change really means to any one.

I scheduled my first LL @ 7am to ride @ 1 pm. When the park opened at 9 am, I was able to book another LL starting at 11 am, without having rode my 1st LL ride. Then, every 2 hours after that, I was able to book a LL. On my visit in December 2021, I always had a LL ride ready and was able to book another without having rode the ride scheduled. This required me to be on my phone every 2 hours to make the LL reservation.

Hi. Can you please post the date of the article with the by-line? It’d help to know the relevancy of the updates vs our last visit. THANKS! LOVE Y’ALL!

How does this work with park pass availability? Most of the time there’s nothing available same day.
