We’re getting to the bottom of a DICEY Disney question.
To our Facebook followers, we posed the question, “What’s something in Disney World that you think is NOT worth the hype?” We got around 1,800 responses and some of the most popular results might surprise you!
Rides
Some of our readers pointed out specific rides that might not be worth all the attention; here are some of the top answers!
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Several of our followers agreed that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a bit overrated. One reader put it simply, “I guess it just wasn’t what I was expecting.”
Others noted that it felt a little lackluster compared to other recent attractions like Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway!

Space Mountain
Though new rides weren’t the only ones catching some flack. One particularly iconic attraction from Magic Kingdom had a number of votes for not being worth the hype — Space Mountain!
“I feel like I’m going to get decapitated every time I ride it so I scrunch down in my seat,” one reader said, “And once we rode it with the lights — do not recommend!”

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Another new ride that our readers feel a little underwhelmed by is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. There’s one very big reason why this ride catches some flack and that’s because folks don’t necessarily think it was worth the demise of its predecessor.
In the words of one reader, “Bring back the Great Movie Ride!!!!”

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
Nearby in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, some folks don’t get the hype of Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. “As much as I love Disney, I was actually surprised at how disappointing the ride itself was,” a reader noted, “Pretty much our entire family agreed that the things you see while in line were more interesting than the ride itself. I would not wait more than 30 minutes or so for that one again. Star Tours is older but far better in my opinion.”
Others agreed saying things like, “Herky, jerky, and the video is not clear. I had a crick in my neck the rest of my trip,” and “It’s only really fun if you’re a pilot.”

Frozen Ever After
Like Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, some of our readers think Frozen Ever After wasn’t worth the trade out from Maelstrom before it.
Put simply, one reader said, “Maelstrom was better imo.”

Peter Pan’s Flight
Some rides are cute, but just NOT worth the wait and Peter Pan’s Flight was brought up as one of them by our readers. “That is a LONG wait for nothing spectacular,” one said. Another asked, “I like the ride and think it’s cute, but why the insane wait all of the time?!”
Soarin’ Around the World
Over in EPCOT, the current version of Soarin’, Soarin’ Around the World, might be overhyped according to our followers.
One of our readers said, “It is crammed with CGI. And unless you are sitting in the center, you get distorted views of everything. I like the old version much better.”

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
We’ve got another one that people just think is not worth the wait — Seven Dwarfs Mine Train! One follower noted, “Big Thunder is better and usually has a much shorter line.”
Another agreed, “Mine Train is too short of a ride for the wait.”

Fireworks Shows
Some of our readers called out fireworks shows, and the new ones — Disney Enchantment and Harmonious — in particular.
One reader just thinks the rides are more important saying, “We usually ride something with a long line instead.”

Eats
Some of our readers called out specific restaurants or eats as being overrated!
Be Our Guest Restaurant
Be Our Guest Restaurant was a POPULAR answer with many of our readers saying it’s not worth the hype.
Some noted, “Very expensive, nonspectacular foods. Beautiful room otherwise.” Others agreed by saying, “I do not understand the hype. While I am glad we got to experience it, we won’t go back. It was overpriced for underwhelming, bland food.”

Le Cellier
Another potentially overhyped restaurant is over in EPCOT. Le Cellier got a few votes for being underwhelming. One reader said, “Everyone raves about how amazing they are. I can make a better steak at home. Definitely not worth the price.”
Another noted, “We really looked forward to going, and it was -good- but not great. Nothing special about the dining experience and the food was no better than Texas Roadhouse.”

Cupcakes
Bestill our hearts! A number of readers said Disney cupcakes are overrated!
One reader put it, “The cupcakes look pretty but rarely taste good. Only had a few really tasty ones out of all the ones I’ve tried.”

EPCOT Festival Booths
We love an EPCOT festival, but it seems some of our followers don’t think they are worth the hype. One reader said, “It’s pretty hit or miss. At the Festival of the Holidays, the item we looked forward to the most was inedible. It had sat too long under heat lamps or something. We were better off eating from the restaurants.”
Another mentioned festivals too saying, “I was really excited to go and it was just a crowded mess. We didn’t feel like we could enjoy EPCOT or the food. What a disappointment.”

Staying on Property
Several readers mentioned that staying on property is way overhyped compared to a few years ago. One reader noted, “They have taken away so many of the perks,” and another said, “Currently at a Universal Hotel for less and not missing the Disney Hotels at all.”
Popcorn Buckets
This next one is pretty topical with the recent Figment Popcorn Bucket fiasco (a 6.5 hour wait!?). Several readers mentioned that Popcorn Buckets are way overhyped.
One noted, “I wouldn’t even wait that long if it was my favorite character. I’d rather have the spork and I don’t even like sporks lol.”

STAR WARS DATAPAD
I tried this in the park during my trip last year in December, and it was very confusing. My phone never acknowledged the QR or scanning stuff, and half the time I didn’t know exactly WHERE I was supposed to be!

So for the most part I completely agree that most items on the list are over hyped. However, I expected that and regardless, I had to see for myself. Would I wait over 20min for 7 dwarfs mine train or Mickey and Minnies runaway railroad again? Absolutely NOT, but I also, personally wouldnt wait even 5min for any Star Wars ride again either. I did try them all at least once, though. Everyone is different, so each individual has to see for themselves, bottom line. You can’t know if you like it or not until you experience it. Your favorite may be meh to me and vice versa.

IMO none of the quick service foods are all overrated in the Magic Kingdom. I’ll also add the snacks to the list too. I used to love the big Mickey Cookie, but lately it’s super dry and tastes old. The best thing we ate was a funnel cake, which doesn’t require much effort. Everything else seriously lacked flavor. French Fries were bland, Tacos were blah, burgers were mediocre at best, etc. Disney World needs to take some advice from Universal Studios- the food there was MUCH better!!

This seems like one of those people read mean tweets about themselves. Some of them I read and I am like, “Why did you even go to Disney?!”
A friend once was commenting on how “awful” my Disney trip plans sounded. They said, “Well, I just want to sleep in, get up, get breakfast, then decide what I want to do for the day.” Then followed it up with,”And I would never wait 30 minutes just for a ride or a show… “ I told them,”Well, I do not think Disney us for you.”

Perhaps the recent Massive Cost Increases have an effect on value vs experience. I know for me it does.

I’d like to see an article on Disney stuff that is NOT overhhyped (or overpriced). That should be a short read 🙂
I do love going there, but it’s getting toward insane these days.

Good Good…get more people out of the lines for some great rides! Love Smuggler’s Run, especially as a SW fan. And Mickey & Minnie is far superior to the old hat great movie ride. It was a great ride but “keep moving forward” and it was time to retire. Never experienced Malestrom so I can’t objectively discuss this but staying on property? Can’t walk to Epcot staying at Universal’s value resorts opposed to a Crescent Lake resort (or skyliner from Pop & AoA!
Long comment short, it seems the hate goes too far on most of these lists. If you’re not gonna wait in a 20 min line for any of those rides, good lord, why are you a Disney World?

Okay, whoever talks badly about the cupcakes is gonna fight me. ROFL!!!! j/k
Seriously though, I go every year to Disney and my Facebook friends say they can’t wait for my pictures of cupcakes/desserts and my reviews. I am VERY picky about my sweets lol. In fact, as soon as my first picture of a cupcake hits my timeline, everyone knows exactly where I am!

My vote for #1 worst (most worst?) Is the whole 50th Anniversary merchandising gala that was haneously overhyped. Where is Walt on the supposedly big celebration of his creation? Hint: You’ll have to go to DHS for their two Chinese Theater shows between 8:30 and 9 pm. There is Walt! This was an opportunity squandered, though probably a success from WDW’s viewpoint because it sells a lot of stuff…
My vote for runner-up worst is Runaway Railway except for the waterfall scene, which it took Remy to deliver in full – and I enjoy Remy!
Close behind is the castle projection mapping show that leaves me completely emotionless, replacing Happily Ever After which, in terms of music and story (SHOW. Remember Safety, Courtesy, SHOW and Efficiency?) drew me in and told a complete, emotional story. Now we have a reel of cartoon snippets with fireworks and nifty Mainstreet lighting.

I was extremely disappointed know the Remy ride at EPCOT.
It’s all 3D projection screens with VERY minimal practical ride set pieces.
If I wanted to stare at 3D screens for 10 mins, I would have stayed home. A huge waste of time.
Rebecca says
My husband and I truly enjoyed Remy’s! We thought it was unlike any other ride in the parks- very innovative, and lots of fun!
