One thing’s certain when it comes to booking a flight: nothing is certain. Flights get delayed or canceled, ticket prices can change overnight, and weather often gets in the way of a smooth takeoff. Many times, there are issues beyond our control that can seriously impact the cost of flying, and recent events may complicate things even more.
If you’re planning on using an airline to travel to your next vacation destination, you might want to start saving a little extra money for your next flight.
In a recent story by CNBC, research indicated that airlines are grappling with, “the most expensive jet fuel costs in more than 13 years.” What does this mean for passengers?
CNBC explained that jet fuel costs recently rose by a whopping 32% in just one week, making it the airlines’ second largest overall cost (the highest expense is labor).
Experts are still divided on whether these costs will trickle down to impact the consumer, but most can agree that ticket price increases would likely take a few months to materialize, according to CNBC. Current estimates by Global News indicate that the price of fuel could rise from 60 cents per liter (as of 2020) to as high as $1.50 per liter.
In Florida, we’ve seen record-breaking crowds in the Orlando International Airport, indicating that airline travel is getting closer to pre-pandemic levels. If airlines raise the cost to fly, the crowds could shrink in the near future.
CNBC explains that many U.S. airlines earn a large portion of their profits in the upcoming spring and summer months. In Disney World, spring break typically brings large crowds to the parks and resorts, though lately, we’ve seen unusually high crowds all winter.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see if the cost of flying is impacted by the rising cost of jet fuel. In the meantime, stay tuned for all the latest Disney news and park updates!
