There’s one topic of conversation that’s been on a lot of people’s minds lately. No, we’re not talking about Wordle (but yes, we are obsessed), we’re talking about the news that practically every local TV news station and next-door neighbor can’t stop talking about: gas prices. For those of you planning a trip to Disney World, the rising cost of gas might seriously cut into your snack budget — especially if you’re driving all the way to Orlando!
But even those of you who aren’t bringing your own car to Disney World might feel the impact of higher gas prices. How you may ask? One word: Uber.
As you’re probably well aware at this point, the current gas prices are pretty expensive. As of now, the national average price of gas is $4.32, according to data obtained from WESH 2 News.
If those high gas prices dissuaded you from driving to Disney World, you probably chose to fly to Florida instead. Unfortunately, we still don’t have the technology to teleport yet (get on that, NASA!!), so you need a way to get yourself from the airport to your Disney hotel. One option is to use a ridesharing service like Uber or Lyft!
If you plan on taking an Uber at any point during your vacation, you might want to listen up. Starting on March 16th, Uber is adding a fuel surcharge to help drivers impacted by higher gas prices, according to CNN. The added cost will range from an extra $0.45 or $0.55 per trip, depending on the location. For now, Uber stated that this additional fee will stick around for at least the next two months.
The extra money you pay for your ride will go directly to the driver, and while the money doesn’t cover all of the new gas expenses, Uber explained that the surcharge is meant to “soften the burden.”
This change will be a national surcharge, so no matter where you order your next Uber ride, expect to pay a little extra. We’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more!

The sad thing is that most of the price increases (profits), if not all of it will go to the company and not the drivers who are the ones who really need it.
