Want to have a controversial discussion with a Disney fan? Ask them what they think about Starbucks inside Disney Parks. Some people will say their morning Starbies is essential, even if they have to wait in a Magic Kingdom-at-Spring Break-sized line for it. Others say why waste precious Disney time when you can get Starbucks at any one of two dozen interstate exits on the drive home?
Regardless of your position for the Starbucks at Disney debate, we’ve got the scoop on a big change brewing that could affect your next Disney Parks visit.
Starbucks has just announced that it intends to strengthen its efforts to phase out paper and plastic disposable cups — which could even include the cute ones that say “Disney Parks” on them.
The coffee company is pledging that by the end of 2023, every customer at every Starbucks in the U.S. and Canada will be able to get their order in their own personal, reusable cup. To that end, Starbucks is testing a few different programs to find the best ways to make this work.
Starbucks has offered a small discount when using a reusable cup for years. But now, they’re going to try turning the tables and actually charging extra for customers who don’t bring their own cups, according to a report from CNBC.
Another program being tested in some Starbucks locations is called “Borrow a Cup.” Customers can pay a $1 deposit for a reusable cup, which they get refunded when the cup is returned. “I do think that everyone really does want to contribute to a better world, and if we can help them do that one cup at a time, that is our mission right there,” said Kim Davis, who manages a Starbucks that has been testing the “Borrow a Cup” program.
Disposable cups make up 20% of Starbucks’ global waste, according to the CNBC report. Will Disney Parks guests be willing to carry around a reusable mug or tumbler in their bags for a caffeine fix? At least we will have a reason to collect more of those adorable Disney-Starbies mugs and tumblers!

Lame. Plastic is recyclable, and compostable cups are easily made. I doubt most people will be bringing in their own cups, so all this really is is a cash grab for $tarbucks disguised as environmental concerns.

I’m sorry but I’ve seen some peoples idea of a “clean” cup they are willing to drink from and I wouldn’t want my cup next to it in line on the baristas counter or the barista touching mine after touching the “clean” cup in front of mine, No thank you! If Starbucks goes to that system I am done as a customer (live in PNW) lots of other ways to get my coffee fix, even on the road.
