If you’re looking for some Cajun-inspired eats and beignets, you’d probably enjoy a visit to the Scat Cat’s Club lounge in Disney World!
Scat Cat’s Club is located inside Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort hotel, and you can grab appetizers (and cocktails) from 5PM to 10PM daily, though the lounge itself stays open till 12AM. They recently added two new menu items that involve beignets, so of COURSE we had to try them — and there are some UNUSUAL ingredients involved. 👀
Are you ready to eat some beignets with us? We’ll never turn down an excuse to eat a Mickey-shaped beignet, even if an oyster is involved (yes, an oyster!)!
Let’s start out with the Scat Cats Beignets for $10, which is a trio of Mickey-shaped Beignets served with Red Pepper Jelly, Pimento Cheese, Green Goddess Dressing, and dusted with powdered sugar.
If you want to talk about the dips, we might not be able to shut up. Y’all, these dips were UNREAL. The Pimento Cheese was classic and perfectly textured — not too smooth. We did kind of wish it had a little more pimento pepper flavor or sharper cheese, but it was still incredible.
The Pepper Jelly was not hot like you might expect. Instead, the natural sweetness in the pepper jelly is the main flavor, with a little hint of peppery flavor, and the sweetness of the beignets and the jelly really complimented each other.
And the Green Goddess Dressing was pretty much what you’d expect if you’ve ever had this dressing. Although it was good, when we got too much of the dressing on our beignet we didn’t think the flavors went well together. It wasn’t exactly bad, but it wasn’t great either.
Two flavors that DID work well together were the Pepper Jelly and the Pimento Cheeese! We highly recommend combining them for an ultimate flavor combo. Note that the beignets weren’t super loaded with powdered sugar like they usually are, so the dough was just slightly sweet. We were really surprised by how much we enjoyed this, and we’ll totally be back for more soon.
Now let’s move on to the Oyster Beignet Po’Boy, which is a Mickey-shaped Beignet with Fried Oysters, Lettuce, Tomato, Cajun Rémoulade, and House-made Pickles and served with potato chips for $15. The biggest issue we had with this dish was the structural integrity of the sandwich because the beignet kind of fell apart under the Cajun Rémoulade.
The oyster basically tasted like fried batter, but the house-made pickles and veggies were fresh and delicious. The chips were off the charts good, and they’re seasoned with something that reminded us of Old Bay seasoning. The Cajun Rémoulade added a little bit of heat too! While we did mostly like this, we probably wouldn’t get it again. The oyster didn’t really add flavor, and the sandwich kept falling apart.
If you’re willing to get out of your Mickey beignet comfort zone, head over to Scat Cat’s Club to try these dishes, and stay tuned to DFB for more Disney food reviews!
