What’s the worst part of a Disney World vacation? The moment when you realize you have to walk all the way back to your car at the end of a long night? Waiting for a bus after a day spent in the humidity and rain? Dropping your DOLE Whip on the floor accidentally? Or maybe it’s one specific thing…having to say goodbye. 😢
Checking out of your Disney World hotel can give you some serious post-Disney blues. But, soon the way you check out of your Disney World hotel could be CHANGING!
Disney has started to roll out a NEW check out process that could change how you say “goodbye” to your Disney World hotel. According to the Disney website, guests can still opt for the automatic check out, which takes place on the scheduled check-out date at 11AM.
Or, guests can now opt to use a NEW check out service through the My Disney Experience app. Through this mobile check out service, you’ll be able to check out through the app after you’ve left your room.
Note, however, that it is only available at a limited number of resorts at the moment. For now, the mobile check-out feature is only available at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort.
But, Disney notes that guests should “check back soon” to see when the feature will be available for other Disney Resort hotels. UPDATE: Disney recently updated their website, and now it no longer lists Caribbean Beach and Riviera as the only hotels with mobile check-out. Although no official announcement has been made, this could be a sign that mobile check-out is coming to other Disney World hotels soon. Check with Cast Members at the hotel you’re staying at to find out if it’s available there.
To use this mobile feature, you’ll need to have a credit card on file or have a zero-dollar balance. Only guests with those things will be able to use this “flexible” option. According to Disney’s website, you’ll want to first ensure that you meet that criteria — either you have a credit card on file or you have a zero-dollar balance. You can check this by opening the My Disney Experience app, going to your reservation details, and selecting “view charges.”
Once you’ve done that, and you’ve confirmed that you qualify for this feature, you can view and approve the charges. Then you’ll hit “check out now” in the “Mobile Resort Checkout module” to start the checkout process.
Disney said guests will still be able to charge purchases to their room throughout the day if they use the Mobile Resort Checkout feature.
Disney also notes that they’ll send an email with your itemized hotel account or you can view the charges through the My Disney Experience app.
It appears that guests can continue to use the automatic check-out if that’s what they prefer. With automatic checkout, on the scheduled day of check-out you’ll be automatically checked out at 11AM and an email will be sent with the itemized hotel account (or you can check charges through the My Disney Experience app).
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates on this feature to see if and when it gets expanded to other Disney World hotels. Check back for more updates!

I just stayed at the Grand Floridian DVC Villa’s and all I did was walk out the door.
I did stop at the desk to get a copy of my folio on my way out.

If you are checked out automatically at 11 am, why would you need to check out through the My Disney Experience App? If you need to leave earlier, just leave and let the automatic process happen. Provided all charges have been taken care of. Not sure I understand the reasoning for this “feature”.

Gosh Disney, Welcome to 2022! 🙂

I guess I don’t see the difference

As a DVC member…that is and has been SOP for years.

We just left. Before the end of the day they sent me a copy of our folio. I don’t know what the big deal is….
Travis says
If you let them know via the app you have left early let’s say at 9am, they can get cleaning service sent to the room quicker to flip the room. Makes sense …more rooms available by 4pm. Last few times we’ve been to Disney we didn’t get the text at 4pm that our room was ready. The text was around 5pm.
David says
Wait!! And Disney is not charging for this “service”? (Yet)…… !! 😂

I’m with Tina! What exactly is the purpose of this “feature”? The one and only benefit I can see would be to get housekeeping in faster. But I’m not going to go out of my way just to let Disney know that they can clean my room 30 minutes earlier than they expected. This is just a really weird “feature” that I don’t understand.
