Have you ever wondered what Disney World dark rides look like with the lights on? It might ruin the magic for some people, but it sure is interesting to see more about how these rides work!
The lights come on during rides sometimes when there are technical difficulties and guests end up having to be evacuated, or if they’re just stuck for a few moments. This happened to us briefly on Splash Mountain recently, and we know it’s happened to some people while on Space Mountain when it’s been evacuated (seeing that coaster with the lights on will change your view of it forever!). But, not many people have seen the inside of a famous park icon with the lights on, until now!
Our reader Skyler D. (@fly.sky) reached out to us on Instagram to share her experience with the lights on at Spaceship Earth in EPCOT! She sent us a video of the ride vehicle moving through the attraction and you can see almost everything!
Did you know you’re THAT lifted off of the ground? It’s hard to tell when it’s dark!
As you can see, this moment happened when riders were passing by the printing press scene. You can check out the full video below!

They need to shut down Spaceship Earth until they get it working properly. We rode it several weeks ago and it stopped 10 times. (Our time travel has been momentarily delayed). The announcements by the pre-recorded voices were okay but when the cast member with the screeching voice came over the PA to tell us that our journey would be resuming momentarily, we had to cover our ears.
