UPDATE: Disney has since emailed runners stating that the medals have arrived in time for the weekend.
People who love running AND Disney World probably already know all about runDisney races. These events take place inside Disney World (unless you sign up for the virtual races, of course), so runners get to race past iconic Disney landmarks like the Cinderella Castle and Tower of Terror.
This year, there’s a brand NEW race series called the Springtime Surprise Weekend. It’s scheduled to take place this coming weekend, with a different race on each day of the event. But we just heard that there’s a possibility that a MAJOR part of the race will be MISSING!
The 2022 Springtime Surprise Weekend takes place from March 31st through April 3rd, 2022. It includes 3 different races: the Expedition Everest 5K, the Race for the Taste 10K, and the Tower of Terror 10-miler. You can also participate in the Springtime Surprise Challenge by completing all three races and earning a special challenge medal.
Unfortunately, runners may not be able to claim these medals (for any of the Springtime Surprise races) right when they cross the finish line.
Today, runners who signed up for the Springtime Surprise Weekend races received the following email, which states that the medals might not be ready in time for the races. Disney said that global supply issues have prevented their supplier from getting the medals there on time.
Disney stated that they would of course get the medals to the runners even if the medals arrive late, which probably means they will be sent to the mailing address listed on your runDisney account. In the email, Disney asked participants to confirm their address so that the medal is sent to the correct place in a timely manner.
We’ll keep an eye out for any more updates about this new runDisney event, so stay tuned with DFB for more of the latest news!

Todd says
Being a runner who has participated in many RunDisney events, I wish Disney would stop with the virtual events. It was understandable while the in-person events weren’t occurring, but the point of RunDisney is to have the experience of running within the Disney environment. Retaining the virtual events reeks of being a money grab.
