Are you itching for a Disney World vacation? Got those post-Disney blues? Just craving a seat on a bench on Main Street, U.S.A. with a citrus swirl in hand? Well, maybe May of 2022 will be THE month for you — the month that you finally get back to your “happy place.” If that’s the case, there’s one big cost you need to consider…airfare.
Every month, we stop to examine the average cost to fly to Disney World to help you get a feel for what costs might be for your trip. We last took a look at those flight costs for April, but now it’s time to jump to May! Ready to get planning? Then grab your imaginary luggage and go on a journey with us…a budget journey that is!
Our Method
If you’ve read these posts before, then you know the drill. But, just in case, we’ll break down our method. Just as we’ve done in previous months, we looked exclusively at the average cost to fly from a limited number of airports (within the United States) to Orlando International Airport (MCO) in May of 2022.
For dates, we looked at a trip departing on Thursday, May 12th, and returning on Monday, May 16th. This range of dates was on the slightly cheaper/average side compared to some more expensive dates in the month. This was based on flight costs from JFK to MCO.
Prices can vary a ton depending on what dates you choose to travel. This year, Memorial Day falls on May 30th, so that will likely impact flight costs. Other special events or busy periods can also impact things.
For this post (just as we’ve done in previous posts) we got our flight prices from Google Flights, with the except of Southwest Airlines (we got those prices directly from the Southwest Website). These prices are just a look at what costs could be. Flight prices can change daily or even within a number of hours.
Our costs also just reflect basic ticket prices. In other words, we’re not taking into consideration other factors like the pros and cons of flying with a specific airline over another, what benefits an airline (or a particular ticket type) might include, and other things like that. The best ticket type or airline for you will depend on your wants and needs.
Also note that our costs are mainly just base ticket prices. You may need to pay additional fees or taxes when you actually go to book your trip, so be sure to make space in the budget for that!
Some other housekeeping matters:
- We looked for the least expensive combination of flights (cheapest departing and cheapest returning flight). We did the same for the most expensive flight combinations. The times, layovers, and other details associated with those flights might not work for you.
- For Southwest Airlines, we only chose “Wanna Get Away” tickets.
- Keep in mind that the actual cost of your flight might be different (when compared to Google Flights) once you go to book it on the flight’s website (or another travel website).
- We stuck to flights that arrive on the same day as their departure.
- All ticket prices are for 1 person.
Alright, now that the housekeeping is over, let’s look at the flight costs!

Overall, the average price to fly to Disney World in May of 2022 (using our specific method outlined above) ranged from about $347.07 on the cheaper side, up to about $981.22 in terms of the more expensive options.
The cheaper end is more expensive than what we saw in April, while the higher end was actually less expensive than the April costs. But, again, prices can be very different depending on when you choose to visit, what airline you fly with, etc. And things are subject to change as fuel prices change and other outside factors impact the airline industry.
Keep in mind, these are just averages based on the method we used. The actual cost of your flight to/from Orlando could be very different.

You forgot flights from Charlotte, NC ?

You left out JET BLUE Airlines entirely. Why? Was that on purpose? I live in the New York (JFK) and Newark Airport (EWR) area. Both airports have tons of JET BLUE flights going into the Orlando (MCO) Airport so I don’t understand why they were left out of your research??
