Over the course of the last hundred years, the Walt Disney Company has had a pretty big influence on American society.
Whether it’s through the theme parks and the travel industry or through the movies and content they create, they’re definitely having an impact on many people’s lives. Sometimes, more impact than you think!
What do we mean? Well, sometimes it seems that Disney has been a major influence on baby names! We’ve seen it in the past (you don’t think it was a coincidence that Elsa became a popular choice a few years ago, did you?), but now it’s time to see just how Disney affected the monikers of newborns in 2020.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, 24/7 Tempo has reviewed the popularity of baby names in the United States each year between 1880 and 2020 using data and information from the Social Security Administration. From that list, they pulled out the names that never appeared among the 500 most popular UNTIL 2020, and on that list, there were only 25 names.
The 25 “new” popular names include options like Oaklynn and Haisley and Charli, but there are two big names that stick out to us…because they’re inspired by Disney characters! First up is Remy, which brings to mind the talented rat chef of the same name from Ratatouille. The movie came out back in 2007, but the name gained popularity in 2020 potentially because of the TikTok phenomenon, Ratatouille the Musical.
And the other name? Well, it’s none other than Kylo. Yes, THAT Kylo…Kylo Ren from the newest trilogy of Star Wars films. The character was beloved by many, and with The Rise of Skywalker premiering in late 2019, the timing makes sense for a slew of baby Kylos.
Who knows what other Disney names will be popular in the coming years, we’ll have to wait and see! But until then, stay tuned to DFB for all the Disney news and updates.

Love this! My 13 year old daughters name is Remy. Not from ratatouille but it’s still cool.
