Disney-loving runners are already lacing up their shoes to get ready for the 2023 Marathon Weekend! But if you’ve been hoping to reserve your spot to take part in these races, we have some disappointing news for you.

The marathon weekend opened reservations this morning and immediately began experiencing some technical issues. Runners were put in a waiting room or couldn’t access the site at all due to technical problems. Finally, reservations opened around 12:30PM ET and some runners were able to secure their spots. However, many of the races sold out FAST.
As of 1:20PM ET, 5 of the 6 main races/challenges in the 2023 Disney World Marathon Weekend have SOLD OUT. Currently, the sold-out races include the Walt Disney World 5K, the Walt Disney World 10K, the Half-Marathon, Goofy’s Race-and-a-Half Challenge, and the Dopey Challenge.
UPDATE: As of 1:45 PM ET all 6 of the main races/challenges have sold out, including the Walt Disney World Marathon.

Note that the Castaway Cay Challenge (on the Disney Cruise Line) and Virtual Races are still available.

2023’s marathon weekend is celebrating runDisney’s 30th anniversary with a retro theme! This exciting anniversary might be part of the reason for the races selling out so quickly, although these events tend to sell out every year.

We considered signing up this year (we’ve been running at WDW since 2012), but the last time they held the marathon week so close to New Year’s Day the entire resort was painfully crowded due to the holiday crowds still being around when the marathon crowds arrived.
