Can you believe it’s already MAY?! It feels like January just happened, yet here we are.
We’ve already covered 2 food festivals at EPCOT this year, and we’ve seen the return of parades, shows, restaurants, and more in the parks. But, the fun isn’t stopping any time soon. Let’s take a look at the BEST things to do in Disney World in May!
Celebrate May the 4th
May the 4th is Star Wars Day, so obviously there are a ton of things to do in Disney World, especially over in Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios! You can celebrate in your own way, like by riding all of the Star Wars rides, making a lightsaber, or hanging out at Oga’s Cantina. Or, you can take part in some of Disney’s World’s special celebrations!
Last year, there was special merchandise, PhotoPass opportunities, and food available, but Disney has yet to announce what they’re going to do this year to celebrate the holiday!
We’ll be on high alert on May 4th because this is also the day that Disney tends to drop some surprise announcements!

Celebrate Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is also coming up soon (it’s May 8th, if you’re wondering!), and there are some fun ways to celebrate in Disney World! You can check out special limited-time desserts at places like Le Cellier or BoardWalk Bakery…
…indulge in some MOM-mosas over at Boma…
…or get Mother’s Day Brunch at Steakhouse 71! There will be dishes like Walt’s Prime Rib Hash, Floridian Eggs Benedict, and Bacon & Eggs and the meal is ONLY available on Mother’s Day.

Ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
This is the big one, folks! The time is FINALLY almost here — we get to go on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind this month in Disney World! It opens up on May 27th and there is so much to be excited about. We’ve seen some sneak peeks of the ride…
…and how awesome it looks all lit up at night!
We also know the soundtrack to the ride as well as the villain. We expect it to be VERY busy on opening day — park passes were booked up for the opening day, but luckily they’ve opened back up.
This might be because some Disney Vacation Club Members and Annual Passholders were able to snag a spot for a preview of the ride! Those previews are all booked up now.
This is one of the longest indoor roller coasters ever built, has a reverse launch, and the ride vehicles spin all the way around. We’ve been waiting for this ride to open up for SO long, and we can’t wait to see everything in action!

Kick Off H2O Glow After Hours
H2O Glow After Hours events are returning to Typhoon Lagoon water park, and the first one kicks off on May 28th! This event has shorter wait times for attractions, a DJ dance party, special decor, glowing wristbands, and some exclusive treats.
After the event kicks off, these after hours events will take place every Saturday night from 8PM-11PM through August 27th.
Tickets for the event are open right now, and we wouldn’t wait on grabbing them because there is only a limited amount. Tickets are $75 for adults and $70 for kids. If you purchase a ticket to the event, you’ll be able to get into Typhoon Lagoon as early as 6PM on party dates.

Try Some NEW Ice Cream
Salt & Straw just had its grand opening in Disney Springs, and we got to try some pretty unique flavors, like Honey Lavender and Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper! Don’t worry, there are more traditional flavors available as well. But, Salt & Straw also likes to switch up their seasonal flavors each month, and we got an EXCLUSIVE first look at what’s coming in May!
The menu for May is called “Flower Power” and here are the flavors you can expect:
- Jasmine Milk Tea & Chocolate Almond Stracciatella — a “delectably simple” jasmine tea ice cream with chocolate almond stracciatella
- Pistachio Rose Water with Strawberry Mochi — a nutty pistachio ice cream with homemade strawberry mochi and swirls of rosewater white chocolate
- Rhubarb Crumbles with Toasted Anise — a vanilla ice cream with ribbons of homemade rhubarb jam, loaded with toasted anise crumble
- Saffron & Honey with Crystalized Flower Petals — a honey and saffron ice cream with candied cornflower petals
- Mathilde’s Hibiscus & Coconut Sherbert (v) — a coconut cream–infused sherbert with Hibiscus & Ginger Brew from Mathilde’s Kitchen.
These seasonal flavors usually change on the first Friday of every month, so expect to see them at the ice cream spot then!
