EPCOT will soon have a BRAND NEW ride for guests to enjoy. But if you’re hoping to go for opening day, there might be a problem.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opens in EPCOT on May 27th — that’s just a few days away! We’ve seen all kinds of sneak peeks at the ride, its queue, its soundtrack, and more. But there’s something that could keep you from seeing it on its opening day.
If you want to get into EPCOT (or any Disney World theme park) any day of the year, a Park Pass reservation is required in addition to your ticket. That holds true for the opening day for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Park Passes for EPCOT on May 27th had been filling up for select guests, and then select Park Passes were refilled. Now, things have changed again.
Park Passes are now FULL for EPCOT on May 27th for Theme Park Tickets Guests…
…guests staying at select Resort Hotels…
…IncrediPass Annual Passholders…
…Sorcerer Pass Annual Passholders…
…Pirate Pass Annual Passholders…
…and Pixie Dust Pass Annual Passholders.
If you don’t already have your Park Pass for EPCOT for May 27th, you could potentially still get into the park by Park Hopping (provided you have a ticket with Park Hopping abilities).
Note, however, that Park Hopping is limited based on availability. In the past, we have seen some parks fill up and NOT be available for Park Hopping. This has only happened on rare occasions, like the 50th Anniversary, but it’s possible it could happen again. Be sure to check the availability before you park hop — Disney provides a number you can call to check which parks have availability!
However, not all Park Hoppers will be guaranteed a ride on the 27th. Disney recently announced that the ride would have a virtual queue for the standby queue, as well as a pay-per-ride option for the Lightning Lane. This means that there is no traditional queue where you can just walk-up to the attraction and wait. The virtual queue gives guests 2 chances to grab a time — the first is at 7AM (guests do not have to be in EPCOT, but must have an EPCOT park pass reservation) and the second at 1PM (guests must be inside EPCOT at this time).
Based on the virtual queue options, Park Hoppers will NOT be able to score a virtual queue time since Park Hopping begins at 2PM. BUT, there is another way into the attraction through the pay-per-ride option.
If you are a Disney resort guest with a Park Hopper Ticket, you can try to grab an Individual Attraction Selection (AKA pay-per-ride) at 7AM that day. For non-resort guests with a Park Hopper Ticket, Individual Attraction Selection becomes available at the park’s opening time (8:30AM), if there are any times left. We’ve noticed from other popular rides like Rise of the Resistance that these pay-per-ride slots go very quickly — luckily, we have tips for that!
If none of these options apply to you, consider making your EPCOT park pass reservation for the next day on May 28th! Every ticket and annual pass type (except Pirate and Pixie Dust Annual Passholders who have blockout dates) currently has park pass reservations available for EPCOT.
Of course, Park Pass availability can change! Be sure to check for updates as the date gets closer. And check back with us here at DFB for all the latest Disney news!

Disney Mom says
We will be there on opening day. I had booked Epcot for May 27 before the release date was announced for this ride, otherwise I would not have even bothered. My family and I had visited Disney world twice and BOTH times could not get a boarding group for Rise of Resistance. I was so excited to book a third trip with NO virtual ques to worry about. Then BAM, a new one to stress over and, I’m sure, be ultimately disappointed in when we don’t get to ride. 🙁
