How are you planning to celebrate May the 4th in Disney World? You could grab a Star Wars snack, pilot the Millennium Falcon, or build your own droid in Galaxy’s Edge. Today, we’re checking out one of the most high-tech ways to celebrate this intergalactic holiday.
Disney World is working with ILMxLAB (LucasFilm’s immersive entertainment studio) to bring a virtual reality experience to guests! For just a few weeks, guests can preview Meta Quest 2 — Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge. This experience allows you to become part of the Star Wars action. And you don’t even need a park ticket! We’re heading in to check it out today.
From May 2nd through July 21st, you can head into Disney Springs to experience the preview of the Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge virtual reality experience on Meta Quest 2! This free experience is located where the NBA Experience used to be, at the West Side of Disney Springs. It’s open from 12PM to 10PM each day.
Disney said that guests will get to “step into Seezelslak’s cantina” to test out their skills with Repulsor Darts or play the chromarimba. The virtual reality headsets offer “sweeping 360 views of the Star Wars galaxy.” You can also choose to head out of Black Spire Outpost to explore the “wilds of Batuu” and face off against a death gang. So let’s head in to see what this experience is like!
When we went to participate in this experience, we had to first fill out and sign a waiver in order to continue. Once the waiver was signed, we headed in. When we got inside, we put on the Meta Quest 2 headset, and the experience began. This game is based on Batuu, the planet brought to life in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
We were able to eat Ronto Wraps and played games of darts while on the virtual Batuu. Because this game is based on Batuu, you don’t have to be a die-hard Star Wars fan to enjoy the experience. Even just fans of the Disney parks will probably enjoy it.
The building has many rooms where multiple people were able to experience the virtual reality. Once our experience began, we were given about 8 minutes to explore the world.
Don’t forget that this experience is only available through July 21st, 2022. While it’s here, there will be free giveaways and the opportunity to buy Quest 2 onsite. And everyone who tests out this preview will be given a $25 USD store credit for the Quest Store to use on games like the one that’s being previewed here! Ours was sent to us via email. We were also given a free water bottle for participating, as well.
Note that Disney has said that previewing the game is complimentary, so you won’t be charged for this experience.

You can’t make reservations for the experience, so we recommend arriving before opening time to save your spot in line. Guests must be 13 years old or older to participate.

Do you know if you have to stand up or can you experience the virtual reality while sitting on a scooter or in a wheelchair?
