We’re headed to the Fort Wilderness Resort to check out the bar-style eats — and a cocktail or two — at Crockett’s Tavern. With an extensive cocktail menu and some classic bar snacks, is Crockett’s Tavern an enjoyable place to spend an evening?
We tried every food choice on the menu here, so we have all the details to share!
Crockett’s Tavern is a walk-up window beside Pioneer Hall at Fort Wilderness. You will probably recognize Pioneer Hall as the home of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere here is precisely the rustic vibes you would expect from a bar named after Davy Crockett (he WAS the king of the wild frontier, after all!).
It’s giving log cabin, with whiskey barrels, leather canteens, and, yes, a taxidermized bear.Â
Crockett’s Tavern offers only outdoor seating. In addition to having a seating area of its own, the walk-up window also serves as the bar for the adjacent Trail’s End family-style restaurant. If you visit before the sun goes down, apply (or re-apply) your sunscreen. It can be hard to find much shade here in the seating area.
If you are not staying at the Fort Wilderness cabins or campground, you can visit Crockett’s Tavern through Disney’s bus transportation, or by taking a boat from the Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary Resort, or Wilderness Lodge. This snack spot is easy to walk to from the bus stop and the boat dock.
Ordering here is a walk-up experience. Drinks will be served at the window, but if you are getting food, you will need to step over to the nearby P&J’s Southern Takeout to pick it up. Crockett’s Tavern is typically open only in the evenings, usually from 4PM to 10PM. As always, Disney World hours can (and do!) change frequently, so check on those times for your particular date before making a trip to Fort Wilderness.
Eats
Before we get our snack on, let’s take a look at the Crockett’s Tavern menu. As we noted, there is a limited selection of bar snacks, including chicken wings and fried green tomatoes.
And…that’s it for food choice. But what Crockett’s Tavern lacks in food variety, it makes up for in cocktail choices. The specialty cocktails are made with spirits from modern (legal!) moonshine producers including a Moonshine Mojito, Moonshine Daiquiri, and Moonshine Margarita.Â
You will also find an extensive non-moonshine cocktail menu, with classics you may also find on other Disney World lounge menus, like the Pina Colava and the Blue “Glow-Tini.”
Beer and wine selections are also available, including wines by the bottle and a hard seltzer and hard cider.
And, if you’re in a celebratory mood, there’s even a sparkling wine choice.
Several Mocktails round out the menu, including the Disney World 50th anniversary offering — the EARidescent Sip-a-bration.
Drinks
To start off our snacking sesh, we ordered the Blackberry Lightnin’ from the Specialty Cocktails menu. This drink is made with Ole Smoky Blackberry Moonshine, Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, and fresh blackberries. Garnished with a skewer of fresh berries, this drink was fruit forward, with the most prominent taste coming from the blackberry. The lemonade provided a sweet finish. We enjoyed this drink, but those who are looking for something fruity and sweet might be surprised by the tartness of the blackberry here.
Food
Since the appetizer menu is limited, we decided to just try all of it! Our first taste was the Smoke House Nachos — tortilla chips piled with pulled pork, cheese sauce, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, and what the menu describes as “herb cream.” We thought it was sour cream, but okay. And “okay” is how we felt about this dish in general. It was a bit messy to eat (not that messy is a bad thing!). If you are a dedicated nacho-lover, we think you’ll enjoy this dish. But we wouldn’t go out of our way for these nachos, like we might for the Ahi Tuna Nachos at Yak and Yeti.
Next up, we tried the Fried Green Tomatoes, and, well, the okayness continued. These were breaded in a corn meal batter and came out nice and crispy. But we definitely needed sauce to bring out the flavor of the tomatoes, and the remoulade sauce included with this dish was lacking in that flavor we needed. We preferred the fried green tomatoes when they were dipped in the peach-pepper jam that came with our order of Jalapeno Poppers, so if that sounds like your jam (see what we did there?), you might want to ask if you can substitute the dipping sauce or order another on the side.
We thought that Peach-Pepper Jam was also fantastic with its intended dish, the Jalapeno Poppers. These had a good amount of heat, and the sweetness from that jam tamed a bit of the spiciness, making these a very enjoyable app for us. But know that they were hot, so if you’re not into that, these may not be for you.
For us, the highlight of this al fresco snack fest was the plate of Chicken Wings, which comes with a choice of dipping sauces — and, you guessed it, we tried them all. If you’re looking for good wings on Disney property, these would rank on our list. The wings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, just like we like them. As for the sauces, we loved the buffalo and garlic parmesan sauces best. The remaining choices — ranch and honey-barbecue — were typical of what you can get anywhere, and we found ourselves dipping in them the least.
Nosh or Not?
Eat at Crockett’s Tavern if …
- You enjoy dining (and having alcoholic beverages) outdoors.
- You are staying at Fort Wilderness, and you’re looking for somewhere nearby to get food to take back to your cabin or campsite. This is an easy option if you are looking for a quick and different eat at your hotel.
- It’s a beautiful evening at Disney World, and you want to enjoy a quick bite outdoors, and maybe get a respite from the parks.
Try something else if …
- You’re looking for a full meal. You’ll only find appetizers at Crockett’s Tavern and the serving portions aren’t very large. This is more of a quick snack-like option.
- You want a variety of menu items to choose from. Remember the four things we tried are the extent of the food offerings here and they might not appeal to everyone in your group.
- You want an air-conditioned (or, on the rare day, heated) dining experience. That indoor seating you can spot near Crockett’s Tavern is reserved for Trail’s End customers. If you’re ordering at the walk-up window, you will be dining outside.
Overall
We enjoyed our visit to Crockett’s Tavern, and we think many others will, too. It’s a fine choice if you are looking for a casual, outdoor snack and drink. As we noted, it’s currently a place to potentially get a respite from the crowds at the parks (this could change when Hoop-Dee-Doo re-opens) and enjoy some Florida weather. There is a wide drink selection, and the food choices suffice, with the chicken wings being the stand-out. If you’re staying at Fort Wilderness, this is an easy place with not so basic options to grab a quick bite.
The downfall here, like many other Fort Wilderness eateries, is that Fort Wilderness often feels pretty out-of-the-way as far as Disney dining options go. Would we take Disney transportation just to grab chicken wings and a moonshine cocktail here? Nope. But if you enjoy the camp atmosphere or you are visiting Fort Wilderness for other reasons — maybe a pony ride or kayak trip brings you to the area — Crockett’s Tavern might be a solid option for you!

Show a picture of the Kentucky rifle Fess Parker used in the Davy Crockett movies. It’s hanging in the bar.

I am hoping my family takes me to Trails End, next to Crockett’s Tavern, for Father’s Day. I don’t care if it’s breakfast or dinner. 🙂
