You’ve already met the Disney Genie, used your phone to place a bunch of Mobile Orders, and even know the ins and outs of Mobile Merchandise Check-Out, but now it’s time to learn all about something NEW — MagicBand+!
MagicBand+, the new version of MagicBands, will be available in Disney World this summer. These were actually accidentally released early and we got one and got to test it out. Once MagicBand+ is officially here, it’ll have some special features, including one that Star Wars fans won’t want to miss!
Beginning this summer, Disney World guests will get to interact with a bunch of things in the parks in NEW ways thanks to MagicBand+. MagicBand+ will feature “color-changing lights, haptic vibrations and gesture recognition, enhancing the environment’s storytelling.”
One of the new experiences you’ll get to have with MagicBand+ will take place over at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
We actually shared a bit about this when we got a FIRST LOOK at the special Star Wars MagicBand+ design that’ll be available. But today Disney shared some NEW details. It appears Disney has updated an older press release with some of this new information. We were also able to go to a Disney media event that showcased some of this new technology.
According to Disney, the new experience will be called “Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters.” With this experience, guests will be able to “join the Batuu Bounty Hunters’ Guild in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.”
Using a MagicBand+, guests will then be able to find virtual bounties that have been hidden throughout Black Spire Outpost.
Located in the land will actually be a job board. This is where you’ll pick up your assignment. You’ll tap your MagicBand+ to the job board, and then use the MagicBand+ to find your bounty.
How will you find these virtual bounties? Well, you’ll have to follow the MagicBand+’s light patterns and haptics to complete the mission!
Sort-of like the hot and cold game you might have played as a kid, a green light on the MagicBand+ indicates that you’re going in the right direction.
As you start to get closer, the band will blink faster and faster! If you turn the wrong way, however, the band will turn red to indicate that.
Ultimately, it’ll lead you to one of the many doors throughout Galaxy’s Edge. Once you get to the right door for your mission, you’ll get a notification to use your thermal scanner through the Play Disney Parks app.
You’ll be able to use the Play Disney Parks app to reveal your virtual bounty by using the “app’s built-in augmented reality thermal viewer.”
You’ll have to be logged into the Play Disney Parks app with the Disney account that is linked to your MagicBand+ to access this special feature.
Check out the video below to see the MagicBand+ in action!
With MagicBand+ there will be fun games included like this Bounty Hunter Assignment activity! 💫

Looking to get a discount on your MagicBand+? Disney World Resort Hotel guests and Annual Passholders will get the chance to purchase MagicBand+ at a discounted, pre-arrival price, so that’s something to look out for.
When we purchased our MagicBand+ (when they were released by accident) the price was $29.99.
MagicBand+ will become available at Disneyland Resort later in the year. But note that some of the features will vary between Disneyland and Disney World. Disney is set to share more details on that soon.
We can’t wait to learn more about the MagicBand+’s special features and test them out ourselves. Be sure to check back with us for all of the latest MagicBand+ updates!
