Who’s ready to rock with the Guardians of the Galaxy?
Now that we’re getting closer and closer to the opening of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction at EPCOT, we’ve been getting a lot of details about the ride’s queue, loading area, vehicles, and even gift shop! But today, Disney announced one more IMPORTANT detail about the ride and how guests will be able to bypass what is sure to be long standby lines.
Disney World has announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be part of Disney Genie’s Individual Attraction Selection. According to Disney, you will either need to pay to ride through Genie+ in the My Disney Experience app or you can join a virtual queue.
Pay Per Ride otherwise known as Individual Attraction Selection through Genie+ works like this: if you’re a guest at a Disney-owned hotel, you can access the ride via Disney Genie at or after 7AM on the day of your EPCOT visit and buy Lightning Lane access for the ride.
If you’re not staying at a Disney World hotel, you’ll have to wait until the park opens to be able to buy Lightning Lane access. Note that either way, you must have a park pass reservation at EPCOT for that day. You’ll be able to choose a specific window of time to visit the ride.
Once your time window becomes available, you can head to the ride and scan your ticket, MagicBand, or phone at the Lightning Lane queue entrance, and you’re in!
Pricing for Cosmic Rewind is not yet known; currently, the highest priced attraction in Disney World is Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, at $15 per person, per ride (plus tax).
Disney also shared that guests will be able to join a Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind virtual queue and that for the time being, there will be NO standby line.
You can read more about the virtual queue for the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster here!
We’ll let you know about any other details we learn about the ride, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

Kev says
I can’t be bothered with all this. I’d like to come from the UK again but it’s all getting too complicated and too much hassle.
I don’t want to be tied to my phone and appointment times and $60 plus for us to get on it it scandalous.
I just want to pay to get in and walk to a ride. Killing any fun that was left. The new Disney mascot should be some guy in a dollar suit.
Mary Ann Allen says
Can you get in the virtual queue AND buy the ILL?
Kathy says
After being a loyal Disney fan for over 2 decades now, I AM DONE WITH DISNEY. I will not pay another dime to this company until it has returned to what Walt Disney originally created it to be. The magic has gone, Disney is creating a toxic environment for families and it is too expensive!! I can take my family to Hawaii cheaper than our trip to Disney 2 months ago. The CEO and the Execs should be fired for destroying a family, friendly American icon!!
CT says
Kev is exactly right!
Griselle says
This confirms that my next trip to Disney will be a long time from now, when the dust settles from all of these money-making changes. Oy.
Deb says
If you click on the GOTG ride info on the Disney Website and then select the info under purchasing an ILL, it states this. “Guests of a Disney Resort Hotel and Other Select Hotels: These Guests can make their first purchase starting at 7:00 AM on the day of their visit. Available to Disney Resort hotel Guests and Guests of Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Shades of Green.
All Other Guests: These Guests can make their first purchase when the park opens.”
It doesn’t state that you can’t purchase your ILL until you scan your ticket.
Obviously you need to have park reservations to enter any Disney park, but I don’t see where you need a park reservation for EPCOT specifically to purchase an ILL for GOTG, so it leads me to believe that you could still purchase an ILL for this ride when the park opens if available and park hop to EPCOT if you aren’t staying on Disney property. Can you please clarify this information? This is what I am looking at: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/epcot/guardians-of-the-galaxy-cosmic-rewind/ Thanks!
LB says
Kev, I completely agree. And I live in the states. I only have a three hour flight, but still won’t be going. What is included in the ticket price anymore? The air to breathe and the ground to walk on I guess. No thanks Disney. I’m happy for the memories, but won’t be making any more there.
Don says
Gee…another pay per ride. We’re all shocked. Disney has done so many things right lately. Why don’t they just get it over with and charge everyone $400 to get in the gates and then charge per ride and then charge per hour to sit while eating….
GL Josh says
Kev, with some of the current Disney issues they could try to trademark an updated Mickey Mouse named Mi¢key Mou$e.
ABC says
Just ONE MORE WAY for Disney to bleed attendees. Dang!
Christine Searle says
Am I to understand that it is pay to ride only? No regular non-paying virtual queue like they had on ROTR?
ROBERTA SHAFFER says
Disney is just getting to expensive. They are just out to make money. It is to the point that only the wealthy people can afford to go to WDW. And now if you want to get on a ride forget it unless you are rich and willing to PAY MORE.
Chris says
Nothing unexpected here. I will gladly pay the ILL fee and ride it when we’re there in October.
RickTR says
As Mickey says, “It’s all about the cheddar!”
Nancy Thorsby says
Kevin, from the UK is absolutely right!! Park passes, genie, money money money is killing the joy of just going to Disney! There was nothing wrong with fast pass and paying for a ticket and not being able to get a park pass is absolutely criminal!
John Staley says
And the greed just keeps growing!
Jacqueline says
When does this open to the public to pay to get on ? I don’t recall seeing the option the last time I was there.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Jacqueline! The ride opens to the public on May 27th.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Christine! There are two options for Guardians. One is the IAS (pay-per-ride) and the other is a free virtual queue.
Christine says
Gigi, thank you for clarifying! It would not surprise me at all if it had been all pay-to-ride; nothing Disney does surprises me anymore. We were two to three times a year visitors until last year, we went last May and if it had been our first visit we would never go back and that was before Genie + and pay-to-ride. Transportation was a nightmare (especially the skyliner) and attractions kept going down. I’m just not sure the extra expense for less is worth it to me anymore, I never thought I’d say that.
RickTR says
Guess what? Disney doesn’t care if you complain about their high prices. As long as people keep coming to the parks and spending outrageous amounts of money for minimal value, things will stay the same. If you complain and still keep paying, it’s your own fault. Do you really think the world will end if you don’t ride GOTGCR?
Meltigger says
Wow. You can buy a car for what it’s costing to go to Disney! No thanks. I love Disney but yall need to remember what the park was for when Walt thought it up.
Gino says
Used to really love to go to WDW. Just got back and looking at what it cost I can see that this is not the WDW of 15 years ago. As soon as my granddaughters outgrow their desire to go, I will sell my DVC timeshares. The magic is gone in more ways than one as they continue to lean left and looking for more ways to get money from its patrons. They better wise up pretty soon.
Found a cup with bugs crawling on it in the lobby of the GF. Found a discarded banana in the lobby of the GF villas. 5 years ago, that would have never happened. Many food staples were not even available.
Oh well I am an old fart and I guess I don’t matter anymore.
Tom Lockwood says
Being a Disney park fan for 40 plus years. And now having mobility issues. Disney World has made it very hard for someone like me to even consider ever going back there. Beyond the now over priced cost. I can’t be bothered to be on my phone all day trying to figure out if I can travel from one ride to the next. Now they want an extra $15 or$20 if you want or can try to ride the new rides. Walt would be turning over in his grave. Knowing an average family of 5 needs to spend an extra $100/day for geni+, then another $100+ to ride a new ride. All the time while Disney makes $5+Billion per quarter. It looks like I’ll never get back there. So sorry..
Carrie says
I just got done with my possibly last Disney vacation. Genie+ was awful it didnt work like it should nor effectively. If you werent staying on property there was no hope in getting a paid LL pass for the most popular rides by the time you got to the park. They would be all sold out for the day. In general it was not a magical experience.
Lex says
Will the paid Individual attraction selection option be different from the others as far as being able to book up to 2 in any park as long as you have the park hopper option? I’m not seeing on the disneyworld website where a specific epcot reservation will be required for the paid option for GOTG as stated in the article. Are you able to clarify this? Thanks!
